I know the sale has been going on for a while but I only decided to get it yesterday. It’s mainly because of it being ridiculously cheap for the value it offers and I’ve been wanting to play this famous strategy game for some time.
If you were like me, who have not played a Civ game before, here are some answers, thoughts and experience that I’ve had as a complete newbie. After all, this is a pretty hefty game to bite into even at deciding what to buy.

1. The base game is only $6. Are the DLCs worth it? Which version to buy?
Some are. If you really want to make every cent count, get the **Platinum Edition** at $15. It contains the most important and significant expansions. Some consider the base game slightly bare-bone though This may be a little bit of loss aversion at play. Civ 6 is a standalone and finished game. If you don’t like to miss anything out, the full Anthology Edition at $25.

2. Is the game cross-platform?
[Yes](https://twitter.com/CivGame/status/1113187346843787264?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1113187346843787264%7Ctwgr%5E9afea54470e28dc1925c941584b4eca48b525727%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.eurogamer.net%2Fcivilization-6-gets-cross-platform-cloud-saves-for-pc-and-switch). The Switch version didn’t support it before 2019 though. Just link your Switch account with the publisher’s account. Also, this is how to get cloud-saving since it’s not compatible with Nintendo’s cloud save.
The game also supports local co-op.

3. Why this graphically-inferior version?
The portability and… free from the curse of unlocking achievements. While I was looking around for answers to my own questions, I’m surprised by the number of people who mentioned that they ended up hunting for achievements instead of letting the game unfold. While there’s no wrong way to play a game, it is not very fun based on my personal experience.

I’m not going to go into details on its performance. There are plenty of analysis and reviews online. All I wanted to say is… *It’s good enough.*
