Hot Wheels is a toy brand owned and produced by Mattel. The brand was first introduced in 1968 and has been around ever since. I have been a huge fan of Hot Wheels since I was a young kid. I used to play with popular track sets, such as the “Criss Cross Crash” set. There was also the “Fireball” set, and limited time collections. Such as Hot Wheels Highway 35 World Race, and Hot Wheels AcceleRacers. Both of which I collected much of. To this day I still collect Hot Wheels vehicles. The merchandise didn’t stop there. I remember clothing, posters, and of course video games. I have played several titles such as Hot Wheels: Turbo Racing, Hot Wheels: Velocity X, and Hot Wheels Highway 35 World Race. At one point there wasn’t a well known Hot Wheels title for years. That was until the release of Hot Wheels Unleashed.
Developed and published by Milestone. Hot Wheels Unleashed was released for Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC during September 2021. It was later released for Amazon Luna during July 2022, and Stadia during September 2022. Hot Wheels Unleashed is a game that features, what it would be like from the point of view of a Hot Wheels vehicle. You can race, jump, boost, drift, and take shortcuts. Across a few event types, such as Time Attack, and Race. The game also allows versus multi-player offline, and online. The online servers are still active as of 2023. The game features 66 Hot Wheels, including classics and a roster of limited time exclusives. The latter which was obtainable during seasonal events. Which unfortunately I didn’t obtain. There’s also the option to upgrade vehicles with gears, and purchase Hot Wheels crates with Hot Wheels coins. Both which can be earned playing events. You can even create custom tracks in the track editor mode. Which can be used in Time Attack, and versus modes.
In this series of videos, I played the story mode including the downloadable content on the Xbox Series X version. Five Monsters have been unleashed upon Hot Wheels City. They force other drivers to race, and it seems nobody can stop them. This is where you as the newcomer is tasked to defeating these monsters, and restoring order to the city. Along the way you will compete in race, time attack, and boss race events. All of which are on custom track sets in various locations. Such as a skatepark, college classrooms, the basement of a house, and even a skyscraper!
The Monster Truck Expansion is the second of three story expansion packs. “Big wheels, heavy-duty suspension, four-wheel steering, unbelievable tricks and stunning jumps… Are you ready for Monster Trucks?! Test yourself, prove who is the best driver and turn the Island upside down.”
