Hey everyone! My name is Eugene and I’m the developer of The Mildew Children. I’ve been thinking about this story since 2017 and have been developing the game for the past two years all by myself.

The mildew Children – Launch Trailer – Nintendo Switch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R88_VDU6c48

The Mildew Children is a grim 2D adventure mixed with a visual novel about a village of children who follow savage traditions. A young witch named Kyrphel has to perform a dreadful ritual in order to save the village from the Mistress of Death.

Today I’m here to answer all of your questions about my game, the realities of indie development, game design, character development and much, much more. Ask me anything!

Huge thanks to everyone for your questions, I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did!

    1. Have you developed games before, either as a team or solo? Why did you decide to develop this solo rather than find partners?

    2. Why software did you use for the game ? What was the first task you planned when you started developping it ?

What is something you wish you’d known sooner by the end of développent ?

    3. This looks really great! It seems like it’s mostly driven by the story (feel free to correct me!!), so I’m wondering what inspired you or acted as your impetus in creating it in the first place?

    4. Congrats dude, the artstyle is quite eyecatching. What kind of literature do you like? Do you think anything inspired your writing style or the type of story you wanted to tell?

    5. I will check it out. I also would love to make a post like this in the future. I am learning Godot. Started on Unity but then they shot themselves.

    6. Looking forward to playing it!! What inspired you to create a story and game of this genre?

      All the best !

Hey there, thanks for doing this! My question is… would I find the Steam/Console achievements somewhere in game on the Switch port? I, like others, like achievements but without a system level solution I rely on devs including them in-game. Failing that, any thoughts towards patching them in later as others have done?

Either way, best of luck with your release!

The game looks interesting! As someone who likes visual novels and adventures, I am intrigued although I really can’t tell how the gameplay is from the trailer alone.

Does the game have a real ending or is it open?

Will you ever translate it to other languages?

Because it involves children (please correct me if I am wrong), will it be more on the childish/child friendly soft horror side of things or more like horror movies for adults?

The sound effects in the trailer were immersive, nice work!

So I really dig this art style. Can you draw well on paper? I’m trying to make a game boy game using gb Studio and I’m the least artistic person you’ll ever meet.  I know unity and modern games are very different, but I’m curious how, if you aren’t a skilled artist, you were able to teach yourself to do something that looks this nice.

How long did it take you to make the game not the idea but the actually sitting down and making it
