The chip for the connection is ageing and by that, failing. You can either try to get a replacement chip and solder it yourself, or you buy another gamepad separately. Both methods are hit or miss though, as the chips can only be found used if you are lucky:

I bought the white Wii U recently just so its chips wouldn’t die like some black models can. Now you’re telling me ALL game pads are potentially going to expire?!
