Thinking about the idea of an xbox handheld and I can't stop thinking back 8 years ago when Microsoft introduced the Surface Book. There was a magic in that reveal, and as a fan of Microsoft I got goosebumps watching it. That is what I want for the reveal of the Xbox handheld. Let me elaborate.

The Surface Book, was a dockable tablet. You had a powerful tablet that docked to a GPU that made it MORE powerful. What a perfect concept for a handheld.

Sell a handheld, with the power of a Series S, but also sell a dock, that turns it into a super powerful console when on a bigger screen. This would compete with the PC space and offer choice for the kind of experience you want. Maybe it could even beat out a series X in performance!

Combine that with allowing other stores on the device and they could have very enticing piece of hardware.

Here is a clip of that Surface Book Reveal if you are interested.

    1. One of the issues with Xbox is devs having to optimise for multiple skus, and you want to add more skus?

Great for gamers, awful for developers and just not worth it with Microsofts market share.

Only way I can see a handheld working if it is a direct match for Series S.

      Ummm… What?

      1. You aren’t getting a handheld with the power of a Series S, at least one that’s either power efficient, or doesn’t explode in your hands

      2. A handheld, the power of a Series S would be pricey, I’m guessing (real hard guess) 700+?

      3. It’s got the power of the Series S in handheld, but it’s got the power of a Series X docked? What? For one, where is that power coming from? Two, how would it be cooled? Like maybe the dock as a cooler? But again… Three, PRICE!

      4. Unless it’s literally a PC that you can upgrade with different parts, and have no issue with changing GPU/CPU etc, then no, it won’t compete with the PC space, it would compete in the handheld space

      5. One thing you didn’t bring up, does this run a fully normal version of Windows? Or is it like the Xbox where it’s designed and limited for the hardware, to make sure it doesn’t use as much resources as normal windows does, because a Series X/S running Windows would run noticeably worse.

It’ll probably be too expensive if they put that Surface-level quality into it.

Power of the series S? Unless those phone GPUs have come a long way, you’re looking at 15 minutes of battery life lol

    5. I’d like a portable with series s-like capabilities, and sideloading steam/egs like they’ve teased. digital only is fine and even expected. i would like the controllers to be dettachable for both third party accessories and to stave off the whole thing being ruined by drift, and allowing you to use regular xbox controllers wirelessly. multiple accounts, etc. I don’t think these are too crazy, except maybe sideloading
