I installed a 2TB Western Digital SSD in my wiiu!!! I removed the USB ports and directly soldered the cable to the motherboard. My wiiu wouldn’t power the SSD with one port so I the power pin on both ports. I’m using the same model SSD with my Wii and it’ll power the SSD with one port, just thought I’d include that info.

I forgot to mention, I removed the optical drive to make room for the SSD. The only thing that remains from the optical drive is that green board.

If you remove the Disc Drive anyway, you could also have used that good SATA port for a true internal SATA SSD, instead of the slow USB2.0
I’m almost positive the wiiu optical drive uses usb bus.
2TB for Wii U is beyond overkill. Especially when you take into account that will be limited to a filesystem that only the Wii U can read and write (assuming you are using it for that purpose like most people do).
