I did my first playthrough of RDR2 on PS5 in late 2021. I was flabbergasted at how dark the game was due weird HDR that never seemed to get better no matter what settings I tried. I did a lot of internet searching on this issue and found that RDR2 on PS5 is actually the PS4 pro version done through backwards compatibility. So then I found out I'm NOT the only one who's game was consistently too dark to see (it's all over reddit). It's especially difficult to see in the night time or when in shadowy areas.

Upon searching I found Digital Foundry had done a comparison deep dive on RDR2 Xbox One vs PS4 pro and their takeaway was the Xbox One X is the best version of the game on consoles. All that being said I recently got the utterly brilliant Xbox Series X along with RDR2. This will be my second playthrough, I am only about 3 hours into the game and the difference between this game on XSX vs PS5 is absolutely noticeable. I simply thought it'd be just a bit brighter (which it is) but it actually has a cleaner image quality. I took a couple screenshots while free roaming that I posted here so you guys can see just how great the game looks.

Needless to say RDR2 is probably one of the greatest games of all time! The story is EXTREMELY well written and it's definitely an experience that I recommend to all games who enjoy open world games that have a compelling story.

Have any of you played RDR2 on a previous console then played on XSX? If so what'd you think? Was it an upgrade compared to your original playthrough? Thanks in advance.
Long Live Xbox, happy gaming ✌️

    1. I played on One X – definitely needed to tweak my HDR settings but it turned out pretty nice. Overall top 5 gaming experiences ever would recommend.
