If used to speed up development like texturing assets for instance I’m all for it. But I have a feeling they already employ such technologies

They’re plenty successful as is, why ruin it with AI garbage.

I’d like for them to get rid of all of the AI-art infested trash that’s flooding the eShop. It’s so hard to navigate the new arrivals and sales pages when they’re filled with garbage.

They’ll never use unfiltered AI that hasn’t been checked by a human. You can use AI to generate assets, to write stories and to program, but always check what it outputs. Nintendo is particularly careful with what they show their audience, so I can’t imagine them ever risking showing the player unfiltered AI generated content

They already used upscaling algorithms (today they would be called ai) for super mario 3d all stars (for the mario 64 hud to be precise)

wait but Nintendo is mean and evil and wants to take away games from people that don’t pay for them

Minor reminder that this doesn’t include Pokemon games, the developers and artists of whom i’d argue are some of the only people in the industry that would get pass for this given their terrible deadlines.

Seeing how everyone hates Wish by Disney and debate whether it’s AI generated, it’s probably a good thing.

Makes perfect sense to me. It goes back to that “Kyoto craftsmanship” mindset that Reggie was talking about. Nintendo isn’t the best-paying game company in the business, but they are one that has the highest level of retention, because they deeply care about the craft of making games.
Asking Nintendo if they’re going to use AI to make games is like asking Gucci or Versace if they’re going to use AI to help design their 2025 collection, or asking Stephen King or Neil Gaiman if they plan on using AI to add another 20 to 30% of length to their next books.
