The DOOM The Dark Ages DLC Is Terrifying

As of the recording of this video, it’s been 5 months since Doom: The Dark Ages came out to universal appraise, which means that we are now entering DLC territory for this game. And luckily for us, my friends, it software has begun sharing bits and pieces about what we’re going to experience in this continuation of Doom Guy story. Are you ready? If we go by history, it took its software 7 months to release the first expansion of Doom Eternal named the Ancient Gods. And being that Hugo Martin is openly discussing the DLC on his live streams, making Joshua extremely nervous, by the way, I believe the timeline release of the Dark Ages expansion might be closer than we all think. Recently, more details about this new DLC expansion were just uncovered by it software themselves. things that will dramatically change how the game is played and others that will call back to Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal, respectively. What yet? Not everything is sunshine and rainbows, even if we haven’t seen any of these features in action. I’ve already seen a ton of Doom fans express their preoccupation on these new inclusions, which is completely fine, by the way. But let’s at the very least get a trailer before we start dissecting if these new features are good or bad. Yeah, Mr. White. Now, I’d like to apologize again for being absent with videos, my friends. This house is honestly a mess, and I’m also dealing with some demonetization issues on this channel. So, if you’re excited for the Dark Ages DLC, would you kindly leave a huge like? That would greatly help me dealing with YouTube’s BS. Because of that, let’s get this video to 10,000 likes, my friends. Come on, do it for my cats. They need to eat. Also, be sure to let me know down below in the comments how you think this DLC will be named. Something like Doom: The Dark Ages: The Day of Reckoning or something. Because as you all know, I read and reply to all the comments I get. And for the non-believers, you can test me right now. I never miss a single comment and that’s the truth. Also, it software does read my comment section as well. So, your feedback is greatly appreciated, my friends. I understand. With that being said, let’s sit down, grab our super shotgun, and dive straight back into hell. This video was sponsored by Gamer Subs. Use code midnight to get 10% off of any of this cool swag. For all the people that use my code, I appreciate you infinitely, my friends. Thanks to you, I’m able to feed my cats, my dog, my serpent, and give them the life they deserve. Thank you so much for the support, and I really hope you enjoy. According to Hugo Matson, the expansion for Doom: The Dark Ages is going to change how the game is played in very meaningful ways. Just like how the ancient gods changed to Maternal’s formula with the Sentinel Hammer, something similar is going to happen in the Dark Ages DLC as well. And it all comes down to Doom’s holy trinity. It being combat, mobility, and exploration. One of the biggest criticisms given to the dark ages was Doomguy’s mobility as his only options were to either sprint or shield charge against a demon to close up the distance quickly, limiting the players creativity when killing the demons of hell and keeping the combat mostly on the horizontal Xplane. More akin to how classic Doom’s gameplay was in the 1990s. However, its software aims to increase Doomg guys mobility options in this DLC. When I think of the DLC, I think and how it’s coming along, I think of the word mobility, and that’s it. And it’s good. And that’s all you get. Oh my god. That that that word means a lot. So So think about that. Wait, the duck gamer says, “Oh my god, the DLC is going to have no mobility.” It’s going to feature some mobility. It will feature mobility. No, Hugo doesn’t outright say what this new mobility option is going to be. If he did, Joshua will probably die on the spot. But we can very easily deduce what this increase in mobility for Doom guy might be. And it’s something that was introduced all the way back in Doom 2016. It being double jump. More often than not, I find myself thinking how much better the Dark Ages combat loop would feel if we could double jump. There are many instances while fighting the demons where a simple double jump could be the difference between life and [ __ ] I have no idea if this is a bug, but if you walk off a ledge without jumping, you’re able to do so in the air without double jump boots Doomgai acquired in Doom 2016 and carried over to Doom Eternal. Having said that, I can see why Double Jump was removed. And it’s all thanks to its software’s philosophy on each new Doom game they develop, which is all about each game feeling unique from top to bottom. Yet, I do not believe a simple double jump would compromise the Dark Age’s identity and the developers vision with the combat. In the lore, Doomgai acquired the double jump boots in Doom 2016, millions of years after the events of the Dark Ages. So, it makes sense as to why Doomgai cannot double jump in this game, right? Well, not really. The Sentinel Empire possesses technology centuries, even millennia ahead to that of the UAC. So, a simple double jump function is not too far-fetched. Yet, if its software is unwilling to give Doomgai a double jump because it makes the game too similar to Doom Eternal, the next and only mobility option I can come up with is a slide. I don’t like where this is going. Most enemy projectiles and attacks are aimed at Doomg guys chest. So giving us a slide is a good way to quickly dodge an otherwise undgeable enemy attack. It’s not as crazily advanced as the dash from Doom Eternal and it keeps the gameplay in the horizontal explain that or they just add some sort of shield bash anchor points where we can dash like the ones found on the ancient gods. I don’t want it. I never have. Hugo also emphasizes the Sentinel hammer and how it greatly changed and impacted Doom Eternal’s combat formula with something similar being worked on for this new expansion. With that in mind, I believe the Dark Ages DLC will introduce at the very least one new melee weapon. Taking a look at the game’s environments, we can see several melee weapons that the Night Sentinels wield in combat. Stuff like spears, swords, great axes, and the like. I would be very satisfied if it software gave us one new melee weapon for combos like the gauntlet and flail and another melee weapon for one hit big damage devastating attacks. Something like the dragon slayer from Berserk. You are surrounded by demons and have no BFC charges. No problem. Just swing this big boy and [ __ ] everything that’s in front of you. If Doom the Dark Ages is medieval Doom, then give us more medieval weapons. it software bor favore. Yes, science. While I was editing this video, I began digging into Doom the Dark Ages concept illustrations just for the sake of it. And while doing so, I came to a big realization. Just like in Doom Eternal with the Sentinel Hammer from Commander Veilen, Doom the Dark Ages emphasizes King Novik’s great ax in some of the cinematics and in-game environments in the lore. Aside from King Novc, since Doomgai became the great slayer, he was also considered a king of the Sentinel Empire. And maybe this great axe, which is different from the one the lower rank Knight Sentinels use, is a relic only given to that of a king. Yet, that’s only a theory, a Doom theory. What’s not is this. Digging even deeper, I found the Surf Hullberg, which is already fully textured and modeled, which made me believe that this weapon is already in the game. I tried my very best to find it, but failed tremendously, which makes me believe that the Surf Hullberg is the new melee weapon Dooma is going to wield in this DLC. Just look at it. It’s pretty [ __ ] badass. And for those who think this is actually asex spear, it’s not. There are a lot of differences between the two and the game differentiates them between asex spear and the serve halberg. But what do you think my friends? Let me know down below in the comment section. All of the things I just pointed out have been mentioned by Hugo Matson, but have yet to be confirmed in terms of a specifics. Now, let’s get down to business. Hugo also emphasizes the importance of exploration in this DLC as it will be used as a way to expand and further develop the story. Not only that, but he also mentions that this DLC will feature a lot of backtracking and puzzles to solve. Akin to what you expect from a survival horror like Resident Evil and Silent Hill games where you run around the same area solving mind-breaking puzzles until you unlock that door you need to progress. As someone who has played Resident Evil and Silent Hill since the very early 2000s, having this kind of exploration on a Doom game has me quite excited to say the least. Another thing that will fundamentally change the Dark Ages in this DLC will be the inclusion of a hub for Doom Guy. similar to the fortress of doom found in Doom Eternal and we have actually seen this new hub in action already. It being the crit maker ship in Doom the dark ages ending. Doomg guy takes possession of Bishop Crit ship and uses it to go down to the depths of hell and start his mission to hunt down hell’s high council the order of the six a group of six arch demon gods who answer only to the dark lord Devath. They say that we shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. But taking a deeper look at the arch demon designs, we can somewhat deduce what their personality is going to be. This arch demon seems to be a sort of prophet wizard, which is probably going to use his staff to summon dark magic. This fat arch demon is going to be the brute of the group for sure. I mean, just look at it. He’s pretty fat. This arch demon is interesting as it’s always depicted to be two demons, maybe sharing the same mind. Probably twins, too. I do not have a read on this one. It’s pretty bizarre to look at. And the last two arch demons give me last boss vibes. Maybe one is the mind behind everything. Probably this one. And the other is just a colossal badass. Because of all of the six arch demons, this one is the one that looks the more classic Doom demon to me. But what do you think, my friends? Let me know down below as well. Apart from expecting features in this new hub similar to the fortress of doom where we could find little secrets, Easter eggs, Doom guys, different suits of armor and the like, I also expect the ability to choose whichever level we want to tackle first. Being that we’ll fight against the six arch demons and that there is only one DLC planned for the dark ages, I believe this DLC will feature a total of six levels. The introduction level that is mandatory for everyone. Four levels that you can choose in the order you want. And the final level where everything goes south. [ __ ] Truth be told, I really enjoyed Asrax’s boss fight in the base campaign, and I expect something of similar fashion here as well. Doomgai against a demon or a group of demons that are not afraid to fight him. going toe to toe on a dance to the death. And just by taking a quick look to the arch demon designs just hypes me up even more for this DLC as they are breathtaking to see. I want more. And last but certainly not least, because this is a new Doom expansion, we will see the inclusion of a new demon or demons to the roster. New enemies that according to Hugo will shake the gameplay loop at its score. And I fully expect this to be something like a Marauder 2.0. But wait, there’s more. Liar. Hugo was asked if there will be cutscenes in this DLC, and his response was that they will be different to what we saw in the base campaign, but there will be a story. This can mean two things, and two things only. Either way, because this hunt for the arch demons is a solo mission, there will probably be next to no dialogue and the cutscenes will be watered down to being just B-roll and complimentary shots for the campaign. Or B, it software has finally listened to my prayers and they will get rid of the hideous letter boxing found in the cinematics. Okay, but truth be told, I really have no idea. What I do expect is a lot of illustrated codeex entries that expand the lore. If there’s one thing I really disliked from the dark ages was how the codeex, something that has been the backbone of modern Doom’s lore, took a horrific backseat, so please software. More codeex pages. I love Codeex pages. This whole thing, all of this, it’s all about me. Hello, my friends. Thank you so much for watching this video. I hope you guys really enjoyed it. And if you did, do not forget to leave a huge like, a comment for the algorithm gods, and use code midnight on gamer subs as well. I am really sorry for being very absent this entire year. Life has been really consuming lately. And all I can do to make it up to you, my friends, is keep releasing more videos more frequently. I promise I will do it. I have a lot of videos I want to do. I just need to find the time and inspiration to do so. At the very least, one video per week. At the very least. But anyways, have a great day, my friends, and stay safe. Adios. Bye. Heat. Heat. N.
