The Best MMO Ever Made Just Ended Development
[Music] What an absolute tragedy, man. New World is the best MMO I ever played and one of my favorite games of all time. I constantly look back fondly on this experience. The world was beautiful. The zones were cool. The progression was really fun and engaging, and the postgame was peak. You could set a goal and accomplish it in many different ways. The gear chase was fun. And now the game is no longer being updated, which is why it’s so tragic what happened to this game. Did it deserve the falloff initially? Yes. And that’s the problem. The game launched way too early, like 6 months too early, probably maybe even a year. Like they should have launched as Brimstone Sands and then it would have been good. And then the game has only gotten better from there. I also thought the gypsum update was great, but the problem is the game had way too many bugs, dupes, the endgame didn’t even work. You couldn’t even use the portals on your Azoth staff. Like, the devs had no idea what to do. They were months too slow to changing any of the issues. That’s always been a weakness with the New World developers is that they never react to problems. They make their content piece, they drop it, and then they start working on the next update, and they don’t change anything until the next update. We’re like, “Oh, this problem, we’ll just fix it three months from now with the next update.” Because we already are locked into our vision, and we’re already locked in to our update pipeline or road map or whatever. It’s like, no, they needed to respond quick. And then all the players just kind of died off. Angry Earth brought back a surprising amount where it’s like, wait, no, this was brimstone, right? Brim. Yeah. So, we have like gypsum update, which fixed a lot of problems. Brimstone, Angry Earth. And I really hope the Eternum update was going to push us back into like 200,000 plus concurrent players and like really make it the MMO or one of the big MMOs because it absolutely deserves it. game is incredible and there’s so much to do in it. Especially if like more people are playing and you’re playing with all of your friends and you have a really good company going like it is it is actually it’s fixed all of its problems and it only gets better and I didn’t even know there was a new update and I’m surprised by the new update as well because like it kind of matched a tournament. We go from 60k peak concurrence and got 50,000 of it back. So, like the player base is dedicated, but it’s one of those things like you want to play a massive multiplayer online game, not a 6k peak concurrent game. I think the raid was too hard to keep people interested as well that like a lot of players would try it, fail, they’d join groups, get kicked out because they just weren’t all running finishers, and the devs like catered to the speedrunners and like the 1% of players instead of trying to make the content more accessible and more engaging. So, like the devs have always had like these little problems that just hurt the game, but it it’s not enough to ruin the game. However, it ruins the experience for a lot of people, and then the player base just kind of bleeds out. And the new update actually looks really cool. I haven’t been able to play it because of Pokemon Legends ZA, but I also didn’t even hear about the update cuz last time I was paying attention to New World, like, yeah, 6,000 concurrent players, I popped on my character and like there was only one world and it was mid pop. It’s like, oh, so yeah, actually no one is playing this massive multiplayer online game, so there’s nothing for me to do but like a new zone, new 10player raid, all the change like the game had like peaked with Eternum, and then it also kind of peaked with Rise of Angry Earth, and it just keeps on peaking. So, we have all these things, new game mode, new raid, in-game progression, 800 gear score, the gear chase is back on and fun, gear modding for perk modifiers. One thing I liked about the game is you could just do whatever build you want and make it work for some kind of content that yeah, even though you would get kicked out of raids and again the raids were just too hard to make anything work and they didn’t like buff the bottom end and then nerf the top end and create a more diverse group of builds. So players just kind of got upset about it cuz they kept on getting kicked for not doing the right thing. I was able to go like void gauntlet off tank and actually have a successful Gorgon raid. Like that’s the kind of fun stuff that exists in the game. So, like adding perks and adding these new modifiers and adding new artifacts unlocks that, but now it’s like, oh, all these cool changes are just so late and it’s as the game is getting sunseted. Set bonuses sounds really cool. You get your desired build, so it isn’t all or nothing. You can mix and match. Umbrells are back. So, we have umbrells to get to 800 gear score so you don’t have to like just throw away whatever piece for the new 750 or 800 raid content. unique gearpiece perks, attribute changes, perk design, you know, eliminating must have perks. Like, it’s all the really good things. The game has gotten better and then we get the announcement, New World is just not going to have any more updates. So, let’s let’s finally get into it. I decided to do that free ammo cuz again, like I think about this game constantly because I love this game. It’s one of my favorite games. It’s the best MMO, but it just it just never came back. As New World recognizes its fourth anniversary since launching on PC, we reflect on an incredible journey shaped by our dedicated player community. Your feedback and passion have been instrumental in evolving a tournament into the world that it is today. And our team is deeply grateful for this shared adventure. After 4 years of steady content and major new console releases, we’ve reached a point where it’s no longer sustainable to continue supporting the game with new content updates. And it’s one of those things where people are like going to get upset at the developers for like ending the game, especially so suddenly and after like a major content update. But look at all they did to not generate any revenue to got not get any new players. And it’s not even the fault of the devs at that point. It’s just that the game got left behind. It was never given a second chance. So what are you supposed to do? Especially after Eternum. You could tell the devs put a ton of work into Eternum just for no returns. Like as a person, that is crushing. That’s like you want your game to be successful. You want people to love what you made and it just didn’t happen and it never continued to happen. And even with like this huge update, I think that’s why they were sitting on it cuz like the update came out 2 weeks ago. We had this announcement. We have all this cool stuff. Oh yeah, by the way, there’s also just a new zone. It’s like so much work put into this update. No growth, no new players, no revitalization of the game, no like major takeoff. Even though like this is it where it’s just like all the 900,000 players, the millions of people that have owned this game, you should have came back from a forum. This was also like the time to come back. Maybe they were hoping like, oh, Asmin picks it up or Moisty Critical talks about it or like one of these big uh MMO people like, yo, I am maning new world at tournum now and then it goes back to 100k concurrence off of this new update in the middle of a tournum because sometimes a game just pops off again. But it didn’t happen. They’re not getting return on investment. I can’t. It’s not even like, oh, Amazon’s just supposed to lose millions of dollars. Why? Because you’re a narcissist. No, it’s not how it works. They made their final peak content push. It didn’t break trend and that’s the end of the story it seems. Recently launched season 10 and night haven update will serve as the final content release for New World on PC and consoles. After much consideration, we reached this decision. I I believe it. I have so much sympathy for the devs, even though I’m also I’m upset at the devs for like cuz I did a video on like why I’m quitting New World and it was just me ranting about all the problems the game has had and like they it seems like they didn’t do a big enough marketing push as well to get back any amount of that 900k. I’m also a little upset because I was kind of one of the top New World content creators and they never reached out to me for partnership or anything or I didn’t get paid. I was doing that all for free. I just did it for the love of the game. But I wonder how fat the bags were back in when the game released because every streamer was playing this game. They got so much money to thank you. Uh over the years we made Night Haven release available for free. Like I wouldn’t even be upset if it was paid content. 20 bucks. Dev’s got to eat. But I think again like that’s why they made it free. They were like please get in here. Please. We just want like that that was like the last ditch effort to ensure all New World players can experience this content. Rise of Angry Earth has also been free. See, like I it’s one of those things like I don’t care about paid expansions. I don’t think it hurt the game. It just never got the second chance. Like now Eternum just has everything for free. Good luck. Have fun until the game is just gone forever. Uh in the coming months, we’ll provide more details on what to expect, other essential information. Our intention is to keep servers operating through 2026, like maybe a year of New World, allowing our community time to continue their adventures. Like that like I I think it’s one of those things like is it too late for New World? No. Technically like.1% like maybe with this news like again like that you need to get Asmin playing it. you need to get everyone playing it and like it can I think the game can still be saved on its own like self-fulfilling momentum where it’s like oh if this break like but also no one wants to play a game that’s going to die. It’s like they should have like left the left it open be like uh we will reconsider this in the future or something like they they just need to put their goals out on the table like hey 100k concurrence turn into a Kickstarter kind of thing. We’ve seen devs break the fourth wall in a way where they said fine you guys want old school Runescape vote on it. Oh my god, everyone voted on it. So maybe if they were just honest about like look, if we get a 100k concurrence, we’ll actually start developing the next major content update. It might be a year, it might be two, who knows? But like we will continue to heavily support this game if we see a 100k concurrence on Steam again and then like some kind of community drive be like you know the keepum content push or also like yo Amazon you could have paid me and I would have just shelved Pokemon Legends ZA and not cared about that crap and I would have done full content release on a tournum to try to get you some of that or like that that should have been it. This should have they should have gone all all out to like make a tournament thing because it is it is a game that should compete with WoW. it is. It should be the forever MMO as one of the best MMOs. The quality is absolutely there. It’s just the player base is not and never came back. And that’s the entire thing. So, it would be weird if like this attention became its own PR thing to get people playing if they kind of ignore that the game’s kind of dying off right now or maybe they realize it’s fun or something. I’m like, I kind of just want to go back and play and see the new content and stuff, but because like this announcement just like closes the book on that, it’s like uh I don’t know. I think they need to be more desperate. I think they need to be more humble and desperate and the game can actually be saved. How long will I be able to play New World at Tournum? Will provide more details on what to expect in the coming months. Minimum of 6 months notice before any changes that impact your play. Cool. Uh are you sun setting? Not at this time. It won’t be receiving new content updates. server will be live through 2026. They completed season 10 and shared it and now they’re just kind of walking off. Previously purchased game currency currency being able to buy the game after October 28th. You’ll still be able to purchase. No new content after season 10. They’re going to keep the game running smoothly though on the servers and merges. No refunds on Marks of Fortune. Uh will there still be seasonal events, bosses, bonus weeks, seasonal events? No more holiday events, man. And I saw like so much on the road map as well where they said they were going to be like expanding the zones and making it to where your zone influence could give you more perks inside of it. Like that’d be really cool. There’s so much potential. There’s just like so much infinity stuff to this game and they just keep adding and making the game better and better. Like imagine 100k concurrent players and then this content drops and goes back up to like 200k or something. Then they do the big settlement update and it holds to 150k concurrence. And it’s just like the most po well not the most but like one of the most popular. It’s up there with WoW and Final Fantasy now. That’s like New World is the MMO, but the turnum push didn’t work. And it’s kind of kind of sad. I don’t know if that’s like Amazon not giving the budget or the faith cuz they blew it all for a game that wasn’t finished yet. It’s a tragedy. And I’ve actually been thinking about making like a a final review for the game, you know, like New World, the best MMO that never got its second chance or something cuz like heartbreaking. Look at that. Even in December, 100k players. Sheesh. Well, like I I’m not giving up hope yet. Like maybe there’s a weird spin on it, but gez.
New World is the Best MMO ever and one of my favorite games of all time. It is tragic to hear that the New World Nighthaven update will be the last update for the MMO.
