The Lost DLC of Euro Truck Simulator 2

[Music] Welcome back, truckers. Today we’re exploring one of the most mysterious stories in Euro Truck Simulator 2. ADLC that was almost complete. A map fans were excited for. A project filled with beauty, detail, and potential. And yet, it never released. This is the story of Heart of Russia, the DLC that never was. Heart of Russia was designed to be one of the biggest and most atmospheric expansions ever made by SCS Software. Russia is the largest country on Earth with massive forests, historic cities, wide rivers, and endless landscapes stretching to the horizon. The goal was simple, to take players deeper into Russia than ever before. From the already explored St. Petersburg and beyond the Baltic Sea, straight into central Russia, into traditional villages, modern cities, and vast areas of untouched nature. Screenshots showed beautiful Orthodox churches, wide open fields, dense birch forests, long highways crossing rivers and wetlands, and detailed architecture from different eras. It wasn’t just a map. It was a journey through culture, history, and scenery. By early 2022, the DLC was almost done. And when I say almost, I mean really close. SCS confirmed the project was 6 to 8 weeks from release. Polishing was underway, testing was happening, cities were built, roads were connected, and the whole map was essentially ready for players. Internally, Heart of Russia was finished. The team was preparing marketing material. The launch window was set for spring 2022. And then everything changed. On February 24th, 2022, Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine. This created an immediate ethical crisis for SCS Software. How do you release a DLC called Heart of Russia right in the middle of a violent conflict? Even though the DLC had nothing to do with politics, the timing and the name made it extremely sensitive. In an interview, SCS CEO Pav Iber explained the situation clearly. He said, “We had the DLC ready, but we knew we couldn’t follow the planned path. We couldn’t promote the beauty of Russia at that moment. He also added, “I can’t find any excuse now, even if we donate all the income to Ukraine. The issue wasn’t the work or the art or the map itself. It was the emotional weight of the name and the possibility that releasing it could be misunderstood or hurtful.” May 30th, SCS released a public statement. They confirmed four things. Number one, the DLC is complete. Number two, it will not be released during the conflict. Number three, it is not cancelled. And number four, they hope it can one day contribute to healing once the war ends. Their exact message was clear. They want Heart of Russia to be part of a peaceful future, not a painful present. Some players supported the choice. They said the timing was too sensitive and releasing the DLC could send the wrong message. Others were disappointed. They argued that roads and trees are not to blame. They wanted the developers to share the hard work that took years to create. But SCS made their decision based on empathy. The team was emotionally affected. Many had friends and colleagues impacted by the war. Heart of Russia became more than a map. It became a symbol, something that had to be handled with care. Even though it never released, we know a lot about the DLC from previews and screenshots. The region included traditional wooden villages, modern industrial zones, farmlands and meadows, large multi-lane highways, bridges crossing huge rivers, and forests stretching as far as the eye can see. It likely included cities such as Tiver, Euroslau, Vladimir, and possibly areas around Moscow, although not officially confirmed. Developers even said the DLC featured some of the longest continuous drives ever created for ETS2. Heart of Russia was big, beautiful, and deeply atmospheric. And now, the most important question, will Heart of Russia ever come out? Here’s the honest answer. The DLC is not cancelled. It is complete. It is ready. And SCS does want to release it someday, but only when the war ends. Only when the world is in a safer place. Only when releasing it won’t hurt anyone. So, will we see it soon? No. Not while the conflict continues. Will we see it eventually? Possibly yes. If peace returns, and if the timing is right, then then the DLC may finally be released. But for now, it stays locked away. Part of Russia remains one of the most unique stories in ETS2 history. A nearly finished masterpiece, a journey through culture and landscapes, a project built with passion, and yet a DLC that the world wasn’t ready for. It truly is the DLC that never was.
