Japanese Mortal Kombat 2 For PlayStation, Legacy Kollection Future DLC Perhaps?
It’s a thing of beauty. It really is. All right. Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. Thank you for clicking on the video. Before you, we have Mortal Kombat 2 for the uh PlayStation. This is the Japanese version. Uh, we’re going to wait one second before we say anything else. And there’s a reason for that. There is a reason for that. Oh, here we go. Loading. Loading. All right. Down, left, right, right, left, down, up. Fight. Excellent. So, I figured while uh we wait for the legacy collection on consoles to have um private matches, lobbies, spectate mode, I figured uh what the heck, let’s show some of the uh Mortal Kombats that aren’t included in this collection uh once again. And so, that being said, we have the Mortal Kombat 2 for the PlayStation. This is the Japanese version. So, I put in the cheat code there, which is switches. hop into switches. You can have uh you know toasty. You say toasty every time you do an uppercut. We’re not going to do that. Unfortunately, we don’t get uh unlimited credits. So, I hope we beat it because this doesn’t play like the arcade version plays different, but we are going to do Artful Scaling. If you are unfamiliar with this version or haven’t seen the Japanese version of this on PlayStation, then you are in for a treat. Uh or you are in for a headache. So, we will give ourselves nine credits. There’s a lot of um a lot of loading in this. I’m going to show you. So, Shang Fun can morph into anyone. We’ll leave it at that. Uh I don’t know if I want to play at Yeah, we’ll play at medium. Whatever. Like I said, it doesn’t play like the arcade. The AI is separate in this one. So, it’ll be uh it’ll be interesting. It’ll be interesting. Uh you’ll notice here player names. This is kind of weird. On the Sega Saturn version, which is pretty much the exact same, they don’t say the player names, but the PlayStation version, you put the check mark on and uh you get player names. It’s It’s weird that they would uh do that, but uh sorry, did we Yeah, did our full scale. Okay, that’s what we want. Let’s start this game out, ladies and gentlemen. PlayStation one. Now, that music is funky as hell. I like it. We’re going to go with Subzero. Subzero. And you’ll notice that little smiley face. That’s usually the uh MK logo, I believe. But because we put that cheat code in, it’s a smiley face instead. And you’re going to see this game loads all the time. It is loading between everything, which uh really weighs it down, but it looks good and it plays good. That’s what matters. That’s what matters. Now you’ll notice. Keep zooming in. What is this? Is this uh Samurai Showdown wins. So very good version. I’m going to turn it up a little. Turn it up a little bit. Now you’ll notice Subzero can actually freeze the computer in this one, you know, from anywhere. Just like that. Well done. And uh you can’t do that. Now you’ll see it is weighed down. Weighed down with tremendous loading victory. And that is the biggest issue for this fatality. It would have been cool if they added this on the legacy collection, but got rid of the uh the loading time, but kept the music because the music is very unique in this version. And that’s uh that’s one reason I actually really like it on here. The artful scaling, not so much, but it’s still cool that they implemented it, but uh it could give you a headache. I like that it’s an option you can turn off and on. And again, you can only do it with the the cheat code. It’s not an option that you can uh that you can select unless you put in that cheat code. So, round to fight. But graphically and everything, you know, if this was out for the PlayStation one here, like in North America, this would have been really cool. Really cool to have. We go. It’s funny how he grows when I walk towards him. See, I was going to do a fatality there. The uh the ice figure scales in and out, but uh you don’t during the uh fatality portion of this. But yeah, once again, this would have been a cool version to include uh without the loading. Round fight, like I said, because the music is really unique. Oh, I tell you, some people don’t like the scaling. Not a huge fan of it. I mean, you get used to it while you play, but it’s bit of a nightmare. Round two. Fight. So, they could have thrown this version. in the Super Nintendo version of Mortal Kombat 2. The Japanese Super Nintendo version. There you go. Sound effects all off and everything. But there’s already a bunch of Mortal Kombat 2 on the legacy collection. So, you know, you take you take what you get and you don’t get upset. How about that? Sorry. You get what you get, but you don’t get upset. Round one fight. Listen to that music. All the sound effects are in here for the most part. Raidens with a Y. You’ll notice when they walk towards you, it’s pretty slow. They don’t walk faster by any means when they’re walking towards you. We’re on a little bit faster. Subzero wins. One zero. Round list. There was no honey marmalade. Watch this fatality slow down. Was that terrible or what? Subzero. The sync for the noise is all off. Fatality. There’s no big explosion sound. It’s It’s pretty weak that one. The Saturn there’s a lot of um a lot of glitch fatalities you can do like while doing a friendship and a bay bality and stuff. You can do other other moves. So, I’m going to try that right now. Actually, see if I can do a bay bal friendship on Katana. I actually didn’t even bother doing anything with the fan. You’ll notice if I try, she doesn’t fall for the uh bait and jump back and uppercut or jump back. She doesn’t jump into you. Two fights. And apparently she’s not programmed to do anything when she fanless you too. I’m starting a motion sense. Okay. Should have took a gravel before playing this. All right. So, I’m going to try a friendship/bay valley. Nope. I think you got to do it during her bay ballet. Subzero wins friendship. So, we didn’t feed the tree demons, but again on the Saturn. Maybe it’s only on the Saturn 2. These are uh pretty much the exact same game with a few little slight differences. Well done. Is awesome. I love Okay, he will not let you jump into him. Subzero wins. I’ll try the Babality here and we’ll see if we can do a different Round two. Fight. Like I said, you jump duck and jump back there. Not going to fall for it. Program different from the arcade. This AI might be similar to the AI of Legacy collection after the next update with um being an easier AI. can’t do anything extra when you do the uh sub the finishing moves in this version doesn’t say bay bality I should probably play the Sega Saturn version again I mean while waiting for the lobbies and such and then I can show you some of the uh some of the clutch fatalities that little combo there. Didn’t hear Toasty. Maybe it was just my talking. That little combo there, ladies and gents, where you jump kick behind them and then ground freeze. Use it. Use it all the time. Human opponents. Subzero win and uh on the computer. Round two. Fight. This Subzero is not letting me get around. All right. And the music doesn’t uh reset until until you start the next uh level or sorry, the next round. Always follow up with that ground freeze slide perhaps. buckle and blaze in the back fighting down forward forward block sub. That is an interesting pit too. Fatality. All right, the Molina trick I think works still in this version. Round one. Very cool music. It does. Basically, you walk in about uh you know, little less than a jump kick distance away. You know, it’ll cause her to jump up, throw her size. You uh you’ll end up hitting her with your uh gnarly feet. Round two. Fight. stealing is a trick. Jumping back again. Here we go. The loading is an absolute mess. Fatality. But it’s still a very uh very very cool version. Johnny Cage, will he sh Will he shart? Will he shart with his shadow kick? Will he start with his shadow kick is what I meant. And if he sharts while doing the shadow kick, I get it. There he goes. And you can just keep freezing or keep throwing your [ __ ] ice ball. The odds are you’re going to hit him with it. Whereas in the arcade, unless you’re unless you’re extremely lucky, you’ll never hit him with that ice ball. I believe you can ground. Okay, I was going to say I thought you can ground freeze in this one when you’re right up against the edge. I love how they with heartful scaling on how they grow. You walk towards them and they’re frozen. Fatality. Anyways, we’re playing medium. We’re uh we’re already pretty much through this. I believe it’s the um the Canaro and the battles that might be a little more difficult. This game also has a uh a crazy credit sequence at the end where it shows the programmers for this version. And uh I tell you, these guys are these guys were having a lot of fun while uh programming this version. That’s for sure. You’ll see what I mean cuz a lot of them have very red eyes. I believe even the nickname for a couple of them is red eye. Round two. Fight. Which makes me wonder what were they doing while they were programming this incredible version of Oh, that tube. Thought he was going to walk into this. See if I can He can’t knock him into the acid pool. Subzero wins. A fatal doesn’t do that if you hold down. Here we go. A S. If you go back, it says toasty on the um on the arcade. All right. What the What the heck? All right, let’s see if we can get the Jade battle only using low kick. Ladies and gents, you can’t just play against Jade like on Legacy Collection where you finish a battle, you fight Jade if you turn the option on. You have to earn it in this bad boy. So, no block. Come here. So, you can only use low kick. I tell you one thing I am looking forward to with the um the next update for consoles, uh the easier AI. So, this game is actually on the arcade. It’s difficult to beat with with Liu Kang, um Raiden, and yeah, Liu Kang and Raiden. I find it’s it’s actually pretty darn hard to to complete that version. So, the easier AI I’m going to use for Liu Kang and Raiden to do a couple playthroughs with uh Mortal Kombat 2 Arcade. But other than those characters, the rest the rest of the characters are easy enough. You’ll notice the music here is definitely not the Goro Goro’s later music. Your ice still goes through, which is uh arcade true. Round two. Fight. Yeah, we’re playing on medium here. The AI is actually pretty easy. zero wins. After you put your uh character, after you put your name in for the high score or whatever, the win counter the win counter resets. If anybody’s ever wondering about that, you’ll notice it says two wins, I think, at the top right now, but that’s because it reset after I put in the initials F U K. Remember when you were younger and you used to do that? Round fight. Don’t act like they didn’t. So, there we go. Loading time. Isn’t that atrocious? So, this whole match is just going to be loading if a Shank decides to unload or morph her into other characters. So, the ice might not get him. This seems to avoid the ice. We still got him. So that’s all right. Subzero wins. And again, this was a problem with the trilogy on PS1 too. Round two. Not one, two, not PS12, but the loading the trilogy was uh was pretty bad and they got rid of that. So on the uh legacy, the scaling is going crazy there. How you doing? So, as you can see, I mean, it’s it’s pretty fun to play. It would be a good version to play against somebody else. Few slight little things that weigh it down, but I wish I wish we had this grown up. I mean, the Super Nintendo version was was was far better than this version, but it would have still been cool. Look at that. So the canaro strategy is a little more uh little difficult or a little different and the scaling go all over the place. I was going to see if I could corner him and just keep throwing low punches. See if that didn’t turn around. Try to get him in there. Just keep punching. He got out of that freeze pretty quick. All right, so here we go. We got nine credits. We got seven credits, though. It shows nine. Not sure why that is. All right. Should we do it with subzero? Let’s go random. I think we’ll just go random for the last couple battles here and hopefully we can beat it. Uh there is no uh no definite strategy on Canaro for this as far as I know. Uh nothing like the arcade. So just got to hope for the best. Come here. Come here. Turtle seems to block everything. I think uh maybe the katana method might be the easiest for for him. You never know too though. I wonder if No, he keeps walking towards you. So that Super Nintendo trick where you um get over here where you keep throwing the punches and he floats. That doesn’t work. Come here. Get over here. A lot of hearts. That is your best bet. And while the screen zooms in and out over and over again, you taking your gravel today. Get over here. I’ll tell you right now, this strategy will not work on the arcade. The Genesis work on the Genesis. Get over here. Darn it. I was going to say as long as we’re close enough, try the easy katana method where you just do a lot of fan fan raising or fan lifting, but doesn’t walk towards you any faster in this version. Round fight. That was interesting. Taro was a song [ __ ] in this round to fight. Can’t even get close enough to uh what the hell was that? Can’t get close enough to hit him with your punch there. No, you can’t. Go. That was close. Shoot. And I had him. That was close. 19 seconds left. Let’s get through. Canaro round. Shoot. Oh my goodness. Keep doing that. I guess that is a little awkward to work with. Just it goes too far. Your uh your punch and your kick out of might even run out of time here. Unbelievable. All right, 4 seconds left. My goodness. So, the strategies for Shiao Conn are I think they’re slightly different, too. So, I don’t know if you can jump into him and just uppercut or if he’ll hit you with his kick or punch, but we’ll try. You can fan lift him to death, too, but that’s not one of the uh it’s not one of the more fun methods, that’s for sure. You don’t He hits you with that kick. So, in the arcade, you can duck. Yeah, it’s not going to work. In the arcade, you can duck his kick. Yeah. You got us from far there. All right, five credits. Let’s see. A lot of jump kicks. There’s the low punch method or sorry low kick method where you can just keep pushing low kick. Again, it looks like he charges you from a further distance in this one. So, I don’t think you can do that. Uh, Shang Fun usually makes this battle fun. So, we’ll see if we can uh you will die. And you’ll notice it’s more pixelled when you’re using Shang Fun in this for some reason. Has something to do with the um Shang with the fact that he can morph into other characters. You will. I always notice this battle to be extremely pixelated. Look at that. the shoulder charge even just doing that. All right, we beat him. So, it looks like the strategy on Kahan is just uh jump kick to death. And actually, I noticed that earlier when we were playing with uh with Katana. There you have it. Listen to that music. Excellent. Who is Smoke? All right, so there you go, ladies and gents. Is this a version that you would have liked to play on the legacy collection? I mean, if if only for that cool music and nothing else, then why not? So, you never know. DLC, they start releasing uh DLC for the Legacy Collection, which they uh said they might do. And who knows, maybe this version will be included later on down the road. Uh once again, this version was only released in Japan. Uh even though it’s all in English, uh and it’s the exact same as the um Sega Saturn version. Couple of slight differences. So the artful scaling, not not a not a fan of that, but it’s cool that it’s implemented. And I figured for the gameplay, why not? So, uh, that’s it, ladies and gentlemen. Hopefully, shortly after I release this video, the, uh, the updates are, uh, are implemented on the console versions of the legacy collection and, uh, we will get to, uh, all play together. I’ll be able to get to play a lot of uh a lot of the followers of the channel and people that check out the videos and such who I will tell you right now, I do appreciate each and every one of you very much for following the channel and of course you. So, thank you very much for watching this. Uh I do appreciate it. Let’s check out the uh the people at Probe that worked on this version and their uh their mug shots. You’ll see that in the credits here. I am Daryl Sun, ladies and gentlemen. Take care of yourselves and I will see you in another very varo video soon. I’ll see you in another video very soon. Hey, hey, hey. Hey, hey, hey. Hey, hey, hey. Hey, hey, hey. Hey, hey, hey. Hey, hey, hey. Sub zero.
While waiting for the private matches, lobbies and spectate modes to drop for the console versions of Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection, what better way to pass the time by playing other classic versions. Mortal Kombat 2 for the PlayStation was only released in Japan back in the day. Aside from the horrendous loading times scattered throughout the entire game, this version was still a lot of fun. While it’s not everyone cup of tea, the artful scaling mode was still a nice addition to this classic. Watch as I work through Kahn’s minions in this classic play through. Hope you brought your anti nausea pills.
Enjoy!
