The BEF makes Contact in France || Gates of Hell Finest Hour DLC!
May 1940, the phony war has erupted into a real war. The Germans invade the Netherlands and Belgium on May 10th. What the Germans call Fall Gelb is underway. The French army and the British Expeditionary Force both move into Belgium as planned to take a position behind the Dial River and stop the German offensive there. 3 days later, the Germans are already pounding the third line of defense in the Netherlands. In Belgium, they are expected to arrive at the dial line very soon as well. You two have been ordered north with your unit, the North Staffordshire Regiment. After a 3-day march, your unit has arrived at its designated sector in the Louv area as part of the BEF’s first infantry division. Your part of the line is at a bridge not far from the Belgian village of Corbda. The Germans will definitely want to use this bridge to get to Brussels. So, this is a key position in the dial line. Owing to Belgian neutrality lasting until the 10th of May, the French and the British troops were allowed into Belgium only a few days ago. Arriving at the Dial line, they will need to help prepare the defenses. More trenches and imp placements are still being constructed, which are urgently needed to give this defense line some more meaning. Report to the field HQ for your orders immediately and prepare for the onslaught. For Christ’s sake, Williams, can you shut it for once? We’re all bloody sick of your stories. Take it easy, Stu. Hey, just trying to lift your spirits, mate. You’re looking far too knackered for our little continental adventure. What’s wrong? Yeah. You’re scared of the Jerry. Well, spotty genius. You’re not even slightly bothered by the bloody luwaffer. Doesn’t let us sleep more than an hour a night. We’re all knackered. All right. Shh. Keep it. Captain seems really stressed out today. We’re all right for now. They’ve decided to send another company forward. We’re not going with this. We need to double check the potential gaps in our lines. Given the news, we might not be here much longer. But let’s prepare for the worst. And for God’s sake, get the bloody two pounder out of the middle of the path already. We’re not. I thought the front line was going to stay static again, just like last month and the month before that and a half bloody year ago, you know. Sir, I reckon luck has left us for now. It’s It’s a bloody mess out there, but we’ll be fine. We will just just do your thing, gentlemen. Watch out. Fire. Suppressing fire. Back. [ __ ] They’re just gone. One strike and that’s it. I need you to focus, lads. There must be some lucky sods who managed to find cover. I know that sending a small group like yours is risky, but the moveer leaves me no choice. Lieutenant Williams, your objective is to secure the area in case Jerry decides to scavenge the Rex. No way. Those planes knew the convoy’s location without someone guiding him from the ground. There should be some scout rats for sure. Corporal Crosby, you’re in charge of the medical team. Search for survivors and provide assistance. Williams, cover the medics at all costs. Report to me when you’re ready for evacuation and I’ll send a lorry for the wounded. I can’t do it right now. The skies are too hot. Out. Hello everybody. Wolfpack here and welcome back to Gates of Hell Ost Front. Today we are playing the first mission in the finest hour DLC. We are playing as the Commonwealth. And right now we need to set up an all-around defense to protect these medics as they bring back wounded soldiers. This guy, the bin gunner. Let’s post him up here. You, my friend. This looks good. Yeah. Anywhere I can get you. Kind of protect us and the medics. It looks like the Germans are coming from both sides. Let’s try to dig in quickly. Quickly, quickly. Here. There we go. Move in. Start trying to dig in. I would like the medic to set up a little medical tent here in a relatively safe place right there. How about that? Okay, good. We do have ammunition down to the south. That’s good to see. Make sure our Bren gunner is in a good spot. I do not like this spot all that much. Here, can you dig in? Dig in real fast, buddy. Okay, good. Enemy contacts off this way. Understood. Coming from the southeast. Southeast. Okay. You get near the tree. Okay, this looks okay. We have no AT. We just have one Bren gunner right here who is looking southeast at the moment. Already taking contact over here. All right, boys. Holding this ridge. What’s going on? Light. German infantry approaching from multiple directions. We found wounded. Crosby and his team are treating them. Good. Copy that. Sending help to you out. Okay, we have a burning Matilda here. Unfortunately, that is not operational at the moment. The Bin Gunner is going to town against some of these German assets way out there. And hopefully he’s doing a good job at suppressing them. We have reinforcements inbound coming up the road. What do these guys have? Let’s see. Rifle grenade. Nice. And an AT rifle. I’m going to hold these two guys kind of in reserve. Let’s see where we need them. And then you We have another Bin gun. I would like a Bin gun off in this direction. Please try to dig in here real fast if you get the chance. If not, we’ll find you some cover. Let’s see. boys. I want the anti-tank rifle and his buddy to kind of both be in a position to react from an threat on either side. I have found the rifle grenades to be quite effective in these early war scenarios. The boy’s anti-tank rifle’s good. It’s just uh kind of he’s also good at uh engaging engaging just men with the boys anti-tank rifle. His animations are impressive though. The level of detail in this DLC is absolutely nuts. Our guys are digging in here. You, my friend. Jeez. Get that guy. Get that guy. Engage that guy. Toss a grenade. See you later. Okay, push up. Push up to this house. If you can, German, come on. We have an armored vehicle. Shoot. Not good. Okay, push up. Where’s that AT rifle? Come on, my friend. Come here. I need you boys to move up. We have one downed man. Keep us covered. Okay, rifle grenade. Come this way. At rifle, get into position to engage him. All right, moving up. Okay, we almost hit him. Get down. Loading. At rifle. Engaging. Okay, we missed again, which is not great. hitting that 221 with the boys anti-tank rifle and see some of those rounds did penetrate. Okay, dude. Did you miss again? I’ll take control of you. Let’s see if we can sneak up on them hiding behind this bush. Enemy aircraft down. Got him. There we go. That’s what we needed. Push up. Germans are evacuating. I need my medic. Come up here. Get this guy. We lost a man down here. Crosby, get it done quickly. Okay, that 221 was uh kind of a pain to get. Let’s get in this house. You Bren gun, look out the window. Suppress these guys. Fantastic. We’re going to push our defense out a little bit more. Support these men. We have a machine gun out there. Out of ammo. Think I’ve seen an ammunition crate on the road. Medic, come here. Get this guy in the house. Yeah, I know there’s an ammo crate in the road. Who’s out of ammunition? You come back here. Okay, we’re doing okay. Casualties are relatively light. that machine gun somewhere out here. Guy’s a problem. We’re good to go. Williams, call it in. Okay, great. Captain, this is William. Let’s get out of here. We’re ready for an evacuation. The skies are clear at the moment. Over. Understood, Lieutenant. There we go. Took out that MG. Good work, lads. Out. How’s it going on the right? Let’s bring our medic back. Make sure he stays alive. Everything’s burn. All of our cover is burning, which does not help a whole lot. This lad is knackered. I need one more hand on this one quick. Um, got to save a guy way over here. Bring a medic closer to him. Oh, I’m glad we moved up to this house. Germans are advancing pretty quickly. Okay, where’s our medic? Let’s go around and try to pick this guy up. All right, boys. Move up. Move up. Move up. Lots of contact out there. All right, we’re going to push out. We’re going to try to get this guy despite the uh large amount of enemy contacts we are taking. Go get him. Go get him. Time to be a hero. What’s your name? Lynn Henderson. You got it. Okay. Um I hope we’re getting him. Click the button on the reinforcement t. Help the wounded. Okay. Helps if I knew how to read. Okay, we’re helping the wounded here. Fantastic. We have another wounded man. We need to start pulling back. All right, mate. Get back here. Ammo. Bren gunner. We’re taking more contact on the left side. We have another armored vehicle off to the right. Okay, still helping the wounded. you. That 221 over there is problematic, isn’t it? I think our AT guy is actually back here. Yeah, there he is. Move up a bit. Taking more heavy casualties. There we go. 221’s coming around. Can you get in a position to engage that? move up to these woods. Also, uh let’s patch up a bit. Okay, we get this guy. We’re still working on him. All right, he’ll make it. This lad won’t forget your help for the rest of his life. Fall back. Fall back. You two get out of here. Here’s your cover. This medic. Oh gosh. Actually, hold. Keep holding here. I need our medic. Come and get this guy ASAP. You boys in the house. In the house. In the house. Get this medic. Get that guy up. You two. Up. Up. Up. Yeah, we’re taking some pretty heavy casualties here. Come on. Hit this thing. Okay, I think we hit it. He’s hitting it. Hitting the 221. The 221’s been tearing us up. All right, boys. Medic, come get this guy. It is time to fall back. Hard to see into that foxhole. Get the wounded into it now. Okay, here we go. Start moving back. Let’s get the hell out of here. Our medic needs to assist some of these boys. Safety. See you on the other. Okay. Hopefully the medic will be able to get these guys up. That was a little chaotic. That could have gone better. Pushing up to get that wounded guy pretty far away. Definitely cost me a bit. Do with a cup of tea right now. Okay, lads. Listen up. The Huns are even closer to the Dial River than we thought. We still have some time to prepare the defense. Use it to reinforce our positions. All right, here we go. Preparing our defenses here. We have a two pounder. Where do I want this? We have six minutes to prepare. Can I get a sniper in this house? looking out potentially find a place for him. We have a vicer’s gun here. Another vicer’s These are all vicor’s guns. Okay, we do have a two pounder up here as well. All right, I’m going to set this two pounder up right there. Why not? Boy, I wasn’t much for saying thank you back then. Just thought none of us would make it out alive anyway. Don’t mention. Sorry. Okay, this is our officer. Pain in the ass with those stories I’ve told 100 times. Just trying to keep your spirits up. I No worries, mate. Your sir, we’re just going to set some riflemen up and some of these trenches along the front line. I definitely want some more guys here near us. Four there. Another group right about here. And we really just need to wait. I don’t think we have any engineers or anything uh too exciting like that. We do have ammunition. So, I’m going to go ahead and preemptively get these two boys to carry the ammo crates up to the front lines near the vicor’s guns perhaps. One near the vicer’s gun and then one near this mortar. That mortar is going to go through ammo pretty quick, I take it. Let’s also bring some of this ammo up to this uh two pounder. We have five minutes to prepare our defenses. So, I will get back to you whenever things start to kick off. Last fire. Okay. Here they are pushing our central positions. Hold your ground. All righty, folks. Here we go. The Germans are advancing and I need to make sure everyone’s in their final positions. We’re set up pretty well all things considered. Looks like one of our guns is already engaging. Two pounder. It’s engaging that Panzer 2. We need to hit that Panzer 4 though. Can this two pounder engage? Okay, we’re getting hits. You can see the rate of fire on these two pounders is pretty darn remarkable. The QF does stand for quick firing, so it is living up to its name. Looks like that guy has been more or less disabled. Let’s switch over. Engage the Panzer 2. Engage the Panzer 2. Okay, take out their armor right off the bat. There we go. We have something else way out there, I believe. Okay, they’re abandoning the Panzer 2. Going back to the Panzer 4. Let’s keep hitting it. We won’t train for this kind of defense. Why are they in one spot instead of pushing along the front line? Probably their famous tactics they are using right now. Good stuff. One hard push in a vulnerable direction. Watch your less protected areas. All right. I overall I feel pretty Whoa. German forces. Right flank. Oh boy. Artillery is coming in. More smokes inbound. Okay. What’s the supply situation? I do have an ammo crate near this uh two pounder, so should be able to keep them supplied. I don’t think anyone’s wounded yet. I’m going to bring a medic up to this trench line. If someone goes down in this red circle, the medic will get into action and try to uh administer aid. I did put my sniper up in this roof as well in this building. So, that should be nice. Okay, Vicer’s guns engaging. Two-pounder here is engaging that Panzer 35T. I think we’ve tracked it. Oh, yeah. And they are getting out. We’ll turn off some of those uh the highlights a little more cinematic. And it looks like Yeah, they bailed out. Oof. Still engaging though. This game does look amazing with its scale. Let me make sure we’re doing okay. Do I need to bring over another vicor’s gun? I don’t think so. Our mortar is uh hopping in the action and assisting. Victor’s gun doing work. Let’s see. It’s water cooled. Look at that. Okay. Yeah, we have lots of infantry on the right. And our little two-pounder does not have high explosive. Oh my gosh. I think I just took off someone’s arm with the armor piercing round though. Absolutely brutal. Okay, my officer is in the bunker. You just staying protected. Let’s see here. Sporadic infantry. Left flank’s doing okay. Okay. Mortar, where are you? I’m going to have you hold fire. Let’s hold fire. Managed to send reinforcements. Reinforcements. What do I need? Expect anything extra. I’m feeling okay. We’re going to hold off until we really need it. I’m feeling okay. Engage that Panzer 2. We have a boy AT rifle here. Okay, they’re abandoning the Panzer 2. Good. We have German infantry in the river and they’re attempting a crossing. Panzer 2 on the right has been hit. Another two pounder may be nice. That’s all I got. Another mortar. Let’s hold off for the time being. We’re doing fine. On the right. Okay, understood. Anyone need ammunition? Oh, we have a man down. Come here. More smokes coming in. Get this guy up. We may want another vicer’s gun on the right with how this is looking. Okay, you guys, you can go back to uh firing at will, please. No need to hold fire. Okay, a little lull in the fighting. Okay, here we go. What’s it? Oh, hello Panzer 3. Come on. Hit him in the side. Hit this guy. Come on. There we go. There’s a hit. Traffic jam. Oh gosh, what a kill zone here for the Panthers. Vickers. Let’s see how much ammo we have. I think we’re doing okay. 250 rounds. I’m going to get another Vicor’s gun. I would like it placed kind of in the woods here. Okay, it’s coming on. Yeah, let’s get another Vicor’s gun on the right hand side here. Well, I probably put it maybe actually right here. Let’s see. More Germans central positions. Okay, got it. Yeah, more smokes coming in. This two pounder is doing work. Okay, good. Little two-pounder. Quite effective. Oh, shoot. We’ve lost our medic. That’s my fault. I should have brought him back. Do I not have I do have another medic. Okay, come on, bud. Let’s see. Do we have smoke? Where is that trench? Okay, let’s pop. Let’s smoke them. Okay, medic, come here. Perfect. Perfect. Smoke, come get our medic. Okay, he’s going. He’s getting him. Good. Rifleman’s low on ammo. Oh, shoot. Not good. Not good. Two pounder’s been hit. Bring another one in. Okay, good. We hit him. He’s breaking through. Okay, medics. I can tell we’re exceeding expectations so far. Keep it that way. Okay, this medic come here. Come get ammo. Come get ammo. This tank is essentially knocked out. But we are uh Okay, set up. Get this two pounder up. That panzer. Was that Panzer 3? Dude’s problematic. Our central two pounder has been knocked out unfortunately. Keep moving up. Can you hit it? Out of range. Lovely. Are you in range yet? You’re in range. Set up. Engage it. Rapid fire. Medics, come here. I need a mortar. Mortar. Mortar. Mortar. Smoke. Where’s that panzer? There he is. Start dropping smoke on our positions or near our positions. There we go. Our medics can get to work. There he is. That that uh that panzer out there is tracked. Okay. Oh boy. Try to get this artillery crew up. Get on the gun. Get off the gun. Get off the gun, guys. Shoot. Okay. Oh, brother. That did not go well. Okay, we’re going to need another medic. That’s That’s for sure. Okay, let’s bring this bring this two pounder up. I think that that panzer’s been abandoned. It caught on fire. Move it up right here. Okay, we have more contacts over on the left. Come on, get it. Keep engaging. Hopefully we can take out the turret. That’s really what we got to take out. Come on. Keep hammering it. Okay, they’re disabled. Next. Next one. This guy. This guy. Come on. Hit him. Hit him. Hit him. He’s crossing. They’re trying really hard to break through. There we go. Nice. That’s what I like to see. Where’s our medic? Come here. Get that guy up. Central positions. Another attack. Boy, I’m going to bring up another two pounder right here. Great. Vigor’s guns are doing okay. Medic moving up. Administering aid. Lovely. Okay, come get that guy. Good stuff. Uh, I did not like that. Whatever that big artillery piece is. Another panzer coming up. Nice hit. Jeez. Okay, set up here. Engage the tanks. This is getting a little hairy. Nice. Good stuff. Germans are advancing rapidly. This guy, Panther 3. Okay, they’re abandoning the tank. Nice. Come on, boys. Get the Panzer 2. I was going to just purchase that rifle squad. It doesn’t look like we can. Okay, keep on holding. Another attack on the right flank. Okay, medic. It’s time to pull back. Come back here, buddy. Oh my gosh. Stressful. Wonder why I can’t get that rifle squad. It’s unfortunate. All the mortars are still operational. Only lost one of our two pounders, so that’s good. the left flank. They’re pushing kind of hard here. Looks like Okay, next phase. That’s That was close. What now? Jerry’s taking control of our northern flank. Oh, of course he is. I am sending our last reserves to recapture these positions before our whole entire defense fails. Lieutenant Williams, I need The enemy has brought in their tanks. Those tanks must be destroyed first. My forces have no anti-tank weapons. So you guys have to deal with them on your own. Okay, lovely. Royal Assass though. I’m granting you access to Matilda. Let’s go. Okay, Matilda is going to help. Only have one, so please be careful with this young lady. Okay, I will. Okay, hammering that Panzer 4. Lovely. Let’s stabilize the situation on the front. Let’s bring in the Matilda on our left flank here since it’s pretty weak. Okay, bring the Matilda in. Let’s wheel this two pounder around. Don’t screw this up. Okay, I will I will try not to screw it up. Uh, no promises though. AT squad rifle grenades. Jeez. Okay, not good. Medicortars. I need one of my mortars here. Start smoking this area, please. We need to start laying smoke for our medic. Okay, start lying smoke here. Make sure this is actually smoke. Okay, there we go. Start line smoke out here. Perfect. Okay, medic’s going to start getting this guy up. Smoke should start dropping. Let’s see. Wish I could see where my wounded guys are. Just kind of have to remember, huh? That’s all along the front. Okay, come back here. Get this artillery crew out. Okay, medic’s doing his thing. We’re going to hold tight here. Let’s bring Let’s bring the Matilda around. We have troops on it as well, which is nice. I’m going to bring the Matilda here. No medics, unfortunately. The gun’s still up. It looks like the crew was just killed on this two-pounder. Where did they come from? Okay, still sporadic stuff. Do not hit those sandbags. Perfect. Come on, medic. Doing his thing. He’s working as fast as he can. One more left and then we’re going to get these two guys up. Okay, halt here. I want these guys to get off. Get in there. Get in the trench, boys. Perfect. Whoa, whoa, whoa. Okay, back the Matilda up. Panzer four, panzer three, maybe. I don’t know. Can’t tell. Deploy smoke. Okay, he’s backing it up. He backing her up. Smoke screen deployed. That’s nice. Okay, this AT gun around. Medic has done a good job. Come get these guys up. Run. They’re about to bleed out. Get back on that two pounder. You two boys come and rearm. Okay, set up. Get it. Here we go. We’re in position. What are you doing, buddy? Get down. There we go. Hit him in the side. There we go. More hits. Taking care of business. This guy has an AT grenade. That’s probably Okay, one panzer down. Destroy the second. Lovely. Move the Matilda up. German contacts and the trench off to the left. Okay, we need to set up a proper force. You guys come over here and the vicor’s gun. Let’s pack that up. Bring it. Oh, here we go. Found the second one. Hitting him. I think we jammed his turret already. Good stuff. Okay, this is going to act as one squad and this will act as a second. Both tanks have been destroyed. Enemy tanks have been destroyed. Advance to the German positions. All right, bring the Matilda up. All right, move up a bit more. I want this Vicor’s gun in position before we really start the advance. These guys can move up though. And this two pounder. Bring it up as well. Up. Up. Up. Keep moving. Things are looking good. Medic got everybody up, I think. Okay. Halt. Suppress these guys. Ren gunner. Where do I want you? Come up. Bringing these AT guns up into the woods. Perfect. Good suppressing fire. We have a lot more cover moving up. Vicker’s gun set up, right? Okay, they’re suppressing. Lovely. Let’s bring them around here. Maybe a little more effective. Matilda, move up. I’ll deal with these guys. Perfect. Suppressive fire. Okay, the squad is going to move around. So, this force is really just going to pin the enemy and we’re going to have a force come in and ambush them. Where’s our mortar? Smoke. Just out of range. Let’s drop some smoke out here. Okay. Few smoke rounds. Maybe that’ll help a little bit. Okay. Keep moving up. I didn’t I missed that hint. I don’t know what that hint was. Begin assault. Okay, I’ll do that here momentarily. Keep moving. Okay, begin assault. All right, move. Okay, those are friendlies. We’re pinning them down. They’re beginning the assault. Toss grenades. Taking kind of heavy casualties here. Move the Matilda up. Keep moving it up. Bring the vicors up. Okay, good assault. Good push. Nice. Keep moving this vicor up. Keep moving the Matilda. So, the Matilda doesn’t really have much to worry about at this point, I don’t think. There’s a machine gun off to the right. Get that machine gun. Set our Vicor’s gun up. Get that MG. Okay, boys. Got that MG on the side. Go get it. There we go. Good work. Our assaulting force. Go ahead and crawl. Just crawl up. Get ready to lob grenades. Keep pushing. Keep using this Matilda. Okay. Hitting him in the side. Nice. MG set up. You come here. We’re going to take direct control. Grenades ready. Toss one. The northern flank is under our control. Poss. Brilliant job, everyone. Okay, easy peasy. We stopped their advance. I reckon we did. So, Matilda 2 is such an awesome tank. Okay, next phase. Christ. Didn’t expect Jerry to have that many tanks. No one told us about it. And even after this whole mess, we’re just leaving. I don’t know. It feels like it was for nothing. But we stopped them, didn’t we? Maybe some lads from other battalions will be thankful for that. We’ve been through bloody hell, mate. And that’s just today. Why the hell did Jerry even invade Belgium? They could have kept sitting on their asses and not start this whole thing. I’ve heard the Ivans are helping Jerry with fuel and industrial crap. Maybe that’ll push. We need to strike a deal with Jerry and we’ll be home sooner than we think. You heard where we’re heading next. Oh. Uh, some place in um I don’t recall it. Ah, his French names are unpronouncable. Anyway, don’t think it even matters. Let’s just make it till the end, eh? All right, here we go. Mission completed. We have shown them what to expect from the BEF. We may be retreating from the battle today, but we brought ourselves and our allies some more time. Uh, enemy losses 224 men, 14 vehicles. We lost 46 men and two vehicles. That was a very fun mission. And like I said, I do enjoy playing as the uh playing early war stuff. I wish more games showcase it, and I am excited to keep playing through this DLC. Anyway, folks, that is going to do it for today’s video. I do hope you all enjoyed it. If you did, please be sure to leave a like and comment as it really does help out the channel. But until next time, this is Wolfpack 345 signing off, and I’ll see you all on the next one.
