    Is Tears of the Kingdom just a glorified DLC? Look, I get that some fans may not like this game, and that’s all good, but come on, this game is way more than just a DLC. Yes, some of the ideas in Tears of the Kingdom were originally pitched or thought of as a DLC for Breath of the Wild, but at some point, the devs realized those ideas were too big, too numerous, and too ambitious for just an add-on. So, it evolved into a full new game. A DLC tends to build on the base game with maybe a few new quests, gear, or areas, but it usually doesn’t reinvent the core mechanics or massively expand the world. Tears of the Kingdom does that. New sky islands, new underground depths, new traversal mechanics like ascend and zonai devices to mess around with. The devs have said, and I’ll admit this is a bit unfortunate, that there are no plans for TOTK to have DLC. That alone is telling. Why make a glorified DLC if you’re not going to treat it like one? So yeah, while the roots of some concepts trace back to things that could have been a DLC, the final product is way above what a DLC normally means.
