Stranger Things DLC – Real Pilot – MSFS 2024

Okay, everybody. Welcome to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. Today, we have been told there is some new free DLC. We’ll be doing this in VR mode and we’re going to be doing this thing that’s kind of strange. So, let’s get into it. Let’s see what this is about. But um yeah, let’s go all the way through. Let’s do training. Uh I am a licensed helicopter pilot in real life, so this should be pretty decent. But I do know that the career mode helicopter missions like the um the rescue missions, the external load missions, they’re kind of crap the way they have it set up, especially doing the rescue stuff where you don’t have anybody doing any call outs for you and then you really have to get over the side of it and do it more longline style, which isn’t technically what you would be doing in some sort of lift missions, but Um, yeah, we’ll be fine. Drink some elixir, man. Hello. Let’s get to this. All right, listen up, pirate. Pirate, listen up, pilot. We’re bowing here. Call sign. B Eagle tossing the keys. Huey. Uh, taking off from a hover. Managing routes using collective. Cruising destinations. Staying stable during horse operations. Landing from hover. No screwing things up. Cool. Let’s do it. Cool background music, too. Very reminiscent of the show. I’m sure it’s licensed. So, this will take a second to load up. We’ll get into it when it comes in. Okay, we are into it. I’m sitting very far back, right? Why am I here? No. Let’s see. Get myself straightened up in here. That’s good enough. Move myself forward a lot. There we go. That feels better. Use auto start stop on the engine. That is a crime. So, we’re going to get to this. This looks like the tow’s hanger one. I wonder if they got licensing from them for that or if they did their own because everything looks pretty similar to that. Anyways, we have battery here. Everything’s starting to come on. Fuel on. Low RPM audio. Turn that off. I don’t want to hear that right now. Uh, let’s go through main bus. That’s all normal. Anti-colision lights on. Don’t want anybody to walk into us. No, you go. Okay, you can stay there. Uh, let’s see. I’ve got a starter button on my controls, but let’s see if they have one on here that we can use that I can see. Nope. So, there’s nothing [ __ ] working this thing. Oh, now you’re working. Okay, it’s already buggy, already glitchy. We’ve got light. Yeah, this is definitely not the tal hanger model. Um, their model is much more sorted than this thing. Wait for the engine to start. We’re starting. See, we’re at operating RPM. Don’t have any lights on. Can I just take off? Nope. Okay. Useful instruments. External view. Don’t care. Okay. So, we’re taking off. So, I’m lifting up on the Collective. I’m using an Apache Simulator’s R44 control set. Crease. Collect the 40. Cool. Use the rudder. Turn towards training area. I don’t know where training area is. There it is. Don’t know what the master caution is. InverterF. Okay. Don’t know what IF is. I’m also not a Huey pilot. I’m sure we’re good. Looks like it’s slowing down. When we get down here, I’ll look more for IFFF. Slowly descend. Cool. We’re coming in hot, but I’m going to make sure I’m slowing my descent rate as I lose my air speed. to maintain this hover. I’m assuming they’re doing something. See there? Here’s the problem. Because I’m not sitting left seat, so I can’t see what I’m doing. and this is where this falls short. If you’re doing it in third person, sure, this could be a thing. But doing it first person, as you would assume in a flight simulator, it becomes hard because you don’t have any sort of call outs. You don’t have a team. You don’t have crew members. You don’t have anybody telling you left, right, up, down, forward, backward. You just have to figure it out, which is what sucks. And they don’t put you left seat in a lot of things. Um, and even if they did, honestly, um, they you would still have some sort of, uh, crew with you telling you to do one thing or the other. So already, even though it’s cool, Huey’s a sick helicopter, the Talog Hanger one so far is better. The startup procedure on that one is more sorted. Of course, this may be the same helicopter. It looks very similar, but it feels like they neutered it some for the sake of this download. Or it could just be the download playing issues with different things because it’s having to deal with a whole bunch of uh DLC content as well. And also I do feel bad for not knowing what IF is but just privately licensed fly piston helicopters right now like the 22 and the 44 and um have not got into flying Hueies yet although it is on my short list. So, here we are lowering collective, a little bit of right pedal, but as we’re going to pull in collective and slow down, we’re going to be adding a little bit of left pedal to keep oursel pointing in the correct direction. Uh, we cannot descend slower or we cannot descend faster than 300 ft per minute while we have no forward air speed. That would put us into a settling with power or vortex ring state situation. And here we go. We’ve saved Sparky, I guess. Turn engine off. There’s usually an off switch. idle detent. We just turn fuel off. This isn’t my helicopter. It’s a rental. And we can get rid of all that. Don’t need that. Don’t need that. Don’t need that. Bada bing, bada boom. Cool. Rotor brake. Slow that bad boy down. Murray approved. Okay, cool. Let’s get our way into the next one. Oh, wow. There’s more than one. New Hawkins. We’re going to 2530 Maple and the quarantine exit. Objective: Enter the quarantine zone. Drop off supplies. Neighborhood rescue. Leave the area unnoticed. Mastermind Murray, area of operations. Hawkins, your flight crew. Pilot co-pilot Gramps. Engineer Higgins. Rescue Op. Okay. So, we’re starting and we’re starting running. So, that’s fun. I need to scoot myself forward. Get myself centered up. Okay, that looks good. A lot of light here, bud. That’s okay. Uh, don’t know where we’re going. There no tablets back in this time. Going to take off. Enter the quarantine zone. Fly below 300 AGL. Yes, sir. You have to stay unnoticed. Easy peasy. We’re entering quarantine. Making our way to Maple Street, one mile away. Over 60 knots, less than 60 seconds out. Small hill coming up. Keeping an eye out for stuff like power lines. No drones to worry about. Just demigorgans. We’re going to cut right here to stay lower over this crest. Start drifting it in here. Lowering the collective. letting the bottom slide around. Pulling back on the cyclic just a wee bit. We have a water tower over there to worry about. I don’t think I’m landing. I think we’re just hovering. land close to residence. Okay. Well, I wish they would have told me this. I would have set myself up for a better better approach in. We’ll put our tail to the right. Work our way down. We’re reminding our rotors. Probably a little bit far forward. And we are down. Have a cut scene. delivering supplies of some sort. Honestly, I’ve not watched the new season yet. So, delivery has been waited for. Going to work ourselves up at takeoff. Being careful minding the trees. Favoring back into the left a wee bit. A little bit of left pedal keeping us straight. Quarantine exit. Here we go. We’ve got our opening in the trees. Not pulling anywhere near the power that we have available. I see a little saddle in the trees up here. We’re going to kind of move. Control incoming. into the forest passage. I didn’t know we had to go this way. Oh, we might have blown this. Yep. So, we’re have to do that one again because I didn’t know there was a way out that way. I was going to go to the right, which would have been a good way out, but Oh no, there’s a patrol up here. Give it to me. Cool. Then we take the forest exit, which we know is right here. Already moving at 100 knots. I don’t think we need to stay this low, but we’re going to curious. I am running VR setup with this MetaQuest 3 forest passage exit. Pulling up. Clear the trees back down to an acceptable level. Keeping it below 300. And out we go. I hate that we got caught that first time, but I also had a good plan to get out anyways. So, I’m not going to call that a loss whatsoever. Oh, approved. Okay. Thought we were going to have to go land. Okay, onward. Mission two is next. Me down there doing my postflight. I’m not even going to retry that. Not worth doing it. Okay, here we go. Start flight. Pick up and deliver the frequency oscillator to the squawk. Landing old’s old warehouse of the squawk. Start flight. Okay, looks like we’re starting here. Putting me outside again. Thank you for that. The guy that’s in VR wants to be sitting outside. That’s exactly what he wants to do. Okay, that feel that feels pretty decent. Get rid of my little menu thing there. Uh throttle, everything’s good. Collective up. Take off. Good. Fly below 300. Okay. Fly to the warehouse. We’ll stay below these hills. We’re up there at 95% torque, which we have speed now. I don’t need anymore. Or sorry, that was 95% road RPM, but we are up near the 90ish% of usable torque. We’ll cut the saddle here. Staying low cuz this is definitely IFR positioning. Uh warehouse in sight. Uh we’ll circle around and get an approach in from this other side. Looks like the wind’s coming from directly under us right now. So, we’ll kind of adjust for that. And I can even feel that pushing us a little bit. Building is kind of smoothing it up a bit for us. does not feel as rough as it did a few seconds ago. Okay, so we’re down on the ground. Thank you for staying away from the tail rotor. Some more elixir down the pipe and off we go. Take off. Yes, we go. The wind’s pushing us back to the left, so we’ll keep the nose to the right some. There’s our exit point. build some air speed and turn into it headset a little bit. Got 70 knots here. We’re not on a time crunch, so I don’t see us needing to really fly that much faster. Okay, about two miles away. Feels to the left. Uh, find a spot to land. Cool. Also have to be very aware not to settle with power when coming in here. Keeping our descent less than 300 ft per minute. Okay, I’m landed. Turn off engine. [ __ ] Okay, let’s see. There’s my idle stop. That’s there. We’ll just turn fuel off. That seems like the quick way to do it. Apply rotor brake. Wait for patrol to leave. Let’s get rid of this horn before it goes off and bothers us. fun. Uh, this is not the approved shutdown method. This should only be used in the case of demigorgans. Is that even the bad guy still? Oh, okay. I heard other stuff happening. Is the Demig Gorgon still the bad guy? I have not watched the new season yet. Wait for patrol to leave. Okay, they’re gone. Start back. Start back. Release road to break. Okay, fuel on. I’ll press my start button. We are throttle locked at 25% idle. Actually, I need to have the starter generator in the on position. There we go. Starting to get our RPM back in the RPM range here. Watching that torque just hit. So, we had a bit of a light off there at 15ish%. Sounds about right. And that’s building. Transmission oil pressure good. Slowly twist the throttle. Bring her back up. Yep. I’m aware that’s just the rotor RPM, which we’ll have that back here in a second. It’s not letting us over torque. Like I said, this is a bit of a cool down version of the tow hanger one, which was much more realistic, which this is still isn’t bad. Squawk radio, here we come. Believe the wind’s coming from behind us, so we’ll make note of that while coming in for a landing. that could kill off our air speed even though we still have ground speed. And air speed is what makes us fly. Ground speed is how far we skid once we hit the ground. So, we need to be aware of that not to lose lift. And if anything, I’ll turn around this tower up here if the landing area is favorable. That’ll put us head back into the wind and it’ll give us a time to kind of scout it into a slow down once we get to it. Let’s see. Oh, yeah. Big field around it. I don’t see any guywires, so I think we’re good. I’ll kind of drift this bad boy around here and come and land on the other side of the building. As you can see, we have a 30 knot air speed here and we are barely moving. So, we are definitely playing with the headwind correctly right here. Okay, here we go. On the ground waiting for them to do something. Turn off the engine again. Why? Roll the throttle down. Idle stop down to zero. Fuel is the quickest way. Oh, that was it. Why am I out here? Why am I out here? Why is my VR not working? Um, oh, okay, it’s finished. It was just a just a time thing. Okay, cool. So, deliver stuff to squawk radio. Okay, our next mission. I guess I click next mission, set it back to menu. Um, uh, retrieve murray stranded cargo and deliver it to the squawk landing zones. Palace arcade squonk. Cool. Start flight straight line. Okay, cool. Can we turn off the interior lights? And can I actually spawn inside and in a decent seating position for once? Press night vision display toggle to turn on a night vision device. I don’t have night vision display toggle. Um, what do we have? Can we Can we set that? Let’s see. Settings. Uh, controls. Night vision display toggle. Uh, was that keyboard in for night vision? Okay. Okay. Yeah, cool. Uh, can I turn off my lights in here? Is that a thing? Uh, no. We’re just kind of in Oh, we’re kind of interior lit here, sadly. Yeah. Oh well. So, let’s get rid of this. Let’s go back into night vision mode and take off. Staying below 300 ft, I’m assuming, which is a pretty good uh night vision representation. I have a set of white phosphor night vision myself in real life and similar sort of field of view and everything. That’s all I’m really going to be paying attention to. Fly to the palace arcade. Done. Oh, I’ll say this. This is definitely way better than any night vision that was available in the 80s. So, quarter mile waiting for Murray’s truck. Don’t know what his truck looks like. Haven’t watched this season. Assume they’re going to want us to land here. Oh, hover above the cargo truck. Okay. It’s nice that they put our references around here for us to kind of We have to be aware that we have something swinging underneath of us. We’ll stay clear of the spotlights. We’ll hang over here to the right. Actually, we’re not exactly longing. We’re more of a sling load right here. Let’s see. Can we do a two shot? Yep. So, you see it’s not like a 200 foot long line like you would typically see in external load operations. Avoid Max Z. The hell is Max Z. Look, I’m just flying to Squawk Radio. I don’t know what Maxi is. Is that the military place? I’m assuming. Okay. Yeah, that’s all it was. Putting power in. Be careful not to put oursel into vortex ring state here. Close. We were close there. might close. I’m guessing this is our new base of operations. Oh, no, cuz we still took off from the hill up there. So, our little package there. Turn our throttle. Oh my god, that’s bright. Throttle down. That’ll detent. Bring that to zero. Fuel. Let it do its thing. Cuz as we learned last time, this is just uh waiting for the mission to be over. Ready to fly. Sitting too far back. Puts me outside. Put myself back inside. Scoot forward. Okay, cool. Let’s get rid of that menu thing there. Don’t need it. Engages necessary. Who knows? Cool. There is everything. Take off. Off we go. I don’t know where we’re going. Quarantine zone’s usually that way or no, we’re on a different hill now. Staying below 300. I see a blinking red light up there. Is that a tower? Yeah, that’s a tower. Just another day as your average everyday helicopter pilot. And down the collective keep our above ground level, elevation altitude low. It’s when you start saying elevation your entire life, it’s really hard to start transitioning yourself to say altitude. So bear with me on that. Entering quarantine zone. Quake zone. Approach and scout. I still have night vision. Yeah, it even does a sound. The splinter cell sound. How cute. And if you’re wondering, real night vision does not do that. I’m scouting. Don’t know what I’m looking for. Oh, you turned on the spotlight for me. Thanks, bud. Looking for somebody who I don’t know what they look like. It says fly the rift. So, we’re going to fly the rift. Oh, there’s a vehicle up here. Thank you game for pointing that out for me. Okay. Yep. I would have seen that anyways. It’s not like they’re showing me something I wasn’t going to run into. Vehicle is clear. It’s very rifted. We’re going to continue moving on up here. I’m going to assume somebody’s going to be waving at me eventually. Another vehicle there. Finding our tail. Y’all are looking too, right? You just sitting there. Another vehicle up here, but I would have seen it. Yeah, not Bernie. Just looking for a good weekend. No, but here we are. Another vehicle up here. Oh, this is burning. Okay, so I got to hover above this. Just another day. I would love to bring Cat closer, but nobody’s giving me call outs. So, we need to do this old trick again. We’re not close enough. Not too low. Look at Bernie can’t do a little bit for him. So I lost Bernie cuz he died. Okay, cool. How close do you want me to Bernie? 20 to 80 ft. Okay, cool. I’m right here. Like right here. [ __ ] me. They’re on the right side. Seriously. Too bad I’m not in the third person where I can see the cool explosion. I’m not redoing that. That’s annoying. Okay, off to squawk. Yeah, call outs, guys. You’re literally part of my crew there. You could be looking. Also, if you want to be winching anybody, you should be on the same side as your collective. Collective on the left side, you need to sit left seat. Much easier that way. Unless you have the AAR window pocket down there. Don’t get too high. Yeah, that’s annoying. But that’s part of the thing. Like the whole career mode could have been so much better if they had just addressed some of these issues. And those issues carried over here into the Stranger Things DLC. So, a bit annoying. livable. Yeah, obviously. But especially for those of you who are not flying third person, very annoying. Like for me, wanting to sit in the helicopter and treat it like a simulator instead of treating it like an arcade. Yeah, bit pesky. spawn in a little bit of left pedal. Since we do start with the helicopter running, we’re ready to fly. Spot me outside. Oh, thank you. So sick. And scoot forward. Get rid of that menu there. And off we go. Left pedal as we take off to keep it straight. Get off the ground. Which direction am I heading? Quarantine. Straight ahead. 90% torque. 90% usable torque. Don’t kill me. It’s still like 60%, but it has a red line at 70. So, most torque junkyard. I feel like we’ll have another evasion here. Whether it’s a road patrol or something to do with helicopters flying over because we had one, then we didn’t, then we had one, then we didn’t. So, I’m assuming it will be something else similar on this one. It would only make sense. Junkyards in the Rift. Also, fun fact, I have worked on Stranger Things for multiple seasons. My real job outside of this is working in the film industry as an armorer. Looking for Sparky in the junkyard. Is he here? I literally don’t see anybody. Follow the rift and search a spark. Yeah. Okay. So, yeah, I’ve worked on one, two, and maybe three. I don’t remember. Haven’t touched newer seasons. I was busy doing other stuff. But it’s actually filmed here in Georgia if you weren’t aware. Actually, a lot of it was filmed in the town that I’m in, Jackson. Oo, the rift got a bit more serious right there. Huh. Search for Sparky around it. And now we know that our winch person’s on the right side. I don’t see anybody obviously here. Enter the rift. Oh no. Here we go, guys. Don’t know how to clear my tail for this. Um, did we just enter the upside down? Yep. Fly below 150 HL. Okay, cool. I’m good with that. Cages don’t mean anything. Going back to the junkyard only makes sense. Do they do this in the show? There’s hel Somebody let me know in the comments if there’s helicopter stuff in the show. Very interesting. Now, I will say this. I am feeling a lack of frames here. Hope they’re sparking. Feeling a frame rate issue here. I don’t know which way I need to bring cat forward. Oh, sorry. Sorry, Sparky. It’s cuz I’m not getting call outs. Team work, guys. Okay, so we have you here. I could literally skid down on this. You could just hop in. probably be the better option. So do it again. Kill him again. Oh, that pause the thing. Well, he can fix the hoist. Dodge the swarm of creatures. Well, I ain’t dodging [ __ ] right now, but I’ll tell you what, I’m going to hold steady. back to the rift. Oh, that was another swarm of creatures. Oh. Could I have done better? Sure. But crew resource management is not a thing in this game and we’re worse off because of it. Also, um, if they said wait while Higgins fixed the hoist, I don’t know what that means. Fix what hoist? Like, is it in here? Is it somewhere else? Like, hell of I know. You need to tell me where the hoist is or a fixing the harness. What? Whatever. Is there any specific leaving spot that I need to go to? Nope. I’m just going to go back out the way that I came. Oh, there’s walk. Okay. I don’t know my way around here. We’ll give her full beans on the way in. Did we die a few times? Yes, technically, but also I’m blaming it on them. I can fly just fine. And if anybody’s wondering, no assist, nothing like that. Just me and my controls. I think this is the last mission and it’s just the heli tours stuff, which is probably just something for people who are a fan of the show to get their own little sightseeing tour around this fictional town of Hawkins. Oh. Oh, I don’t have to land. Cool. Thank you. How do we do cool little pose? Strangely enough, I’m not going to retry it. Not worth it. Your crew resource management’s bad enough to where I’m not going to stress myself with it. Yeah, that looks like photo mission. Same thing as you would see in uh in the career mode. Welcome to Hawkins. You probably know this town, but not like this. This time you’re going to go on site to capture the most iconic locations. You can yourself explore the town, photograph most memorable landmarks. You’ll be equipped with a helicopter, camera, and aerial map highlighting all landmarks. Use escape at any time during the flight to access your map and track your real-time position. Each additional Each successful photo will be added to your Hawkins photo album along with success short description or fun facts from your favorite Netflix show. Complete the album piece together story of Hawkins. Sure, whatever. Oh wow, there is a lot. Holy crap. We will do that on another episode. Um I may have to watch the this season just to be up on it. But uh yeah, thanks everybody for tuning in. And um if you want to get a Huey, I would definitely suggest the towels hanger for flying around outside of uh anything like that. Um, that would be this one here. They do very, very well. Very well modeled and very good sounds if you’re into that sort of immersion. So, thanks everybody. See you next time. See you.

A short, but long video of all the rescue Missions in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 in the Stranger Things free DLC. Stick around to see the photo missions when I get a chance to make that later this week.
Setup is an Apache Simulators r44 v2(?) and meta quest 3 VR goggles.
Let me know if there is anything else you want to see.
