Ranking the NEW DLC Mega Pokemon Competitively in Legends Z-A ft. @pokeaimMD and @laximus1
With the Pokemon Legends ZA Mega Dimension DLC finally out, we now have the base stats of all of the new Mega Pokemon, which means we can finally see just how fast and strong these Pokémon actually are. My buddy Joey and I have also been running tournaments on Pokemon Showdown featuring these new mega Pokémon to see how they’ll do in a competitive environment. So, today we will be ranking them from a competitive standpoint to find out which of the DLC megas are the best, which are the worst, and which are outright banable. I’ll leave a link to the tier maker down below so you can make your own list. And let’s get into it. All right, guys. So, I got my good buds Joey and Lax here with me. So, we have three different incredible scientific opinions when ranking these Pokemon. You can see our amazing categories. Probably banned/ ubers. This will be where the strongest megas are. Those that we don’t even think are going to be able to exist in any competitive format cuz they’re just too overpowered. A rank, B rank, C rank, and then unfortunately D rank for the megas we just don’t think are really going to see much use. >> Not going to name names. Not not going to name names just yet, but we’re definitely >> not until it gets to them. Yeah, for sure. >> Gomorrah. But you know what I’m saying? It’s We’re going to try. We’re going to try. So, first off, I guess we can talk about Raichu. Is this one Raichu X? >> That’s >> This is This is Raichu X. Yes. Uh I think that the fact that they released this one in a Zeraora meta, which is Zerora even on Oh, it is right there. Zer a meta like the fact that they released physical pure electric when the super physical pure electric came out and it doesn’t currently have like Pikachu doesn’t have anything physical in it move pool that really benefits like a swords dance or a bulk up >> right there’s no there’s no there’s no setup moves even extreme speed we have it in the ZAOU tier but we don’t know if we’re going to have that you know when champions gen 10 comes out that’s a big one like if your coverage is e speed it’s kind of >> yeah in in the actual ZA game itself it every time it goes for volt tackle it does get an attack that’s in ZA itself that’s not something we just did on showdown. We did copy it on Showdown, but it gets an attack race. Uh, but that’s not something we know what’s going to end up happening. So, it’s really tough, dude, because at least like in Zerora’s case, bulk up drain. This thing does learn drain punch now. But, uh, bulk up drain punch >> and plasma just like Voltag was a great move, but plasma feels just as good. No recoil. Like, it’s it’s fantastic. Yeah, >> exactly. And what you said, you’re killing yourself. >> This one’s really going to come down to ability in my opinion. So currently I’m kind of like >> I think it’s going to need a good ability too cuz even in >> Z like galvanize or something. >> Yeah. >> No, we need to go one step refrigerate is needed. Refrigerate >> legit legit. I was think I was legitimately thinking AA type of ability because this >> it’s it’s tough, right? >> I I think the biggest thing that these DLC mega showed us is like because of how many megas exist now, why would you run this mega when you can run like a better Pokemon aka Aurora? There was a lot of unique typings uh of megas right in the first two batches right in uh >> ORS U uh Sun and Moon U in the first two big overlap. >> Yeah. Now there’s too much over if you have like five pure electrics and Raichu X is like third or fourth on the list. It’s very difficult. Why would you use >> Yeah. After Zora came out, it was really tough. I will say again if there’s an ability huge power, I’m still hoping that somehow someway. >> I mean it doesn’t have the it doesn’t have the starmy boost though. >> I know. But what if No, hear me out. Hear me. Hear me out. Hear me out. >> What’s that item called that that lets you attack uh into immunities? >> Oh, ring target. Ring ring targeting ability >> with that bolt tackle, bro. I’m telling you so you can so you can farm it. If you have that, it will be banned. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It will be banned. >> You can’t have a free. You’re just getting rid of it immunity. You got to remember like it doesn’t have the best special attack, but it can still run mix with grass nut and stuff, right? It’s it’s a worse zero or dude. They gave this thing a better electivire. They gave this thing more defense BST buff than they did attack and speed. That’s the issue here. You can’t do that. >> But 350 speed, you know, regular base Raichu isn’t that bad. And then like if they do end up giving it bulk up, it’s like you’re literally Zerora that has Thunder Punch, super you don’t even have Wild Charge, Thunder Punch, and Volt Tackle. One kills yourself. The other two all the other coverage and you’re just good. Like >> yeah, but knockoff player off is literally zero or it’s like man, we’re out here. We’re out here trying our best, but my boy my boy will be the RU mega of all time. >> Why are they so scared to make electric fighting types? Because Mega Raichu X with fighting type and like >> they saw you they saw you go crazy in tournament with that iron hands and they said we can’t do this again. We just can’t risk it. We just can’t risk >> I mean if they end up giving this thing Ice Punch though, I think it shoots up. I feel like it’s a C like low. >> And I I think you’re I think you’re right. As much as I want this thing to be good, I will say real quick and it’s going to sound like hope. The extra defense actually is pretty decent. I was I was playing on ladder and life orb plus one genoc got the download boost U-turn did 55 now maybe it didn’t have max attack but still 55 from plus one life orb is pretty crazy so it the defense boost you you can definitely tank some hits but I’m not going to sit here >> yeah with that timid genoc attack IVs hitting you with that literally had to be like it had to be heads when I saw 55 I was like wow the defensive guy >> and zero attack IVs like I can’t believe >> is that Raichu X or is that Groudon that was pretty all right agents Real quick before we get into the next battle, I want to give a huge shout outs to Xter who just sent me their new wallets and their travel pack vacuum kit. In a generation where Zora is here, I just used Zero or earlier today on the ladder and it was incredible. It’s it’s pretty tough um to justify using this. It literally has alluring voice which only does mar like 2 3% less than stab dazzling gleam from top coco. Joe showed me this calc yesterday. Lax, it’s it literally alluring voice from Raichu does one or two% less than a dazzling gleam from Coco. Stab, bro. >> And I didn’t even believe it until we were playing in battle cuz it literally did 75 to Garchomp offensive. And I’m like, dude, this is a 75 BP move. How can you even do that kind of damage to a Pokemon like Chomp, you know? >> Yeah. I’m thinking like what if uh Koko had nasty plot cuz Raichu has nasty plot. >> Yeah. >> And Coco is calm mind. But >> yeah, but you would rather get that plus two. Those dragon types are doing 50 instead of being coming. >> This guy reminds me of uh Reggie Leki, dude. Um because it actually hits around as hard as the 100 like cuz Reggie Le has >> basically I know exactly what you’re talking about. I know exactly what you’re talking about. 299* 1.5 is like 450ish and then Raichu’s 419. It’s really not that different especially cuz the coverage is insane. Um, in the the one thing I want to say in the ZAOU tour, uh, I think the second one I hosted, uh, and of course it’s like Gen 9 OU plus all the megas, someone was running boom plus Raichu, so that Grassnot got boosted. It clicked nasty plot and grassnot straight up one hit KO Tingloo and I counted it and is 100% chance to kill and it was outrageous. I mean, the dude was modest, but even timid is overwhelmingly like it’s like 96 men to Tinglu, which is dude, like what is that, right? And then then the dude switched in a Corvanite. The opponent switched in a Corvanite and Terra a dragon and plus two t-bolt did 75. Of course the thing has transistor in this but even without transistor that means it would have done 50 straight up to a KO on a dragon and Corv is not some weak spadef Pokemon right it has a great spadef stat. So that when I saw that I was like holy [ __ ] like this thing is really damn good which is nasty three. >> This thing without an ability is actually I’m sorry it’s stronger than Reggie Leki trans. It’s stronger. I apologize. >> Oh well it does transistor. Yeah. Yeah. No, I’m saying without transistor. It’s stronger than Legi with Transistor. No, it’s not. The first one is Reggie Leki. Surf is super shist depending on what you need it for. He trans back as well. Um and then focus blast. I mean, who knows? Like >> fact dazzling gleam 2 a kos speed. I mean not sp max HP chomp as well. Like it two kos all dragons is outside of like you know the gudras and stuff like that. >> This thing is very clearly going to be like good in it’s going to be one of the top. You cannot have 130 speed and 160 spac and be bad. Even with pure electric, which is a known troll typing, Raichu can get away with it because of the coverage that we’re talking about. Uh, we don’t know about its ability, but lightning rod pri we remember monetric plays bringing in bolt switch plus one. Lightning rod prior is guaranteed. Even Blissey can probably get packed up by nasty plus a boosted enough T-B. Another thing is it has encore fast encore as well is really crazy. >> Yes, sir. Like this thing is very very good. I’m happy one of the Raichu is good cuz I really doubted both of these when when I when when Mega Dimensions was first like revealed to us and I’m like what these two I was like these two look like they got made by Grock. This cannot be real but I was hating. I was hating. Ratchu is amazing. Ratchux I won’t I won’t sleep on it too hard. We’re still praying on some ability. But I’m totally with you guys. Raichu Ratchu is up there in A. All right. Next up is Chime. Joe, you want to talk about this since you’re the one who most recently used Chime? Chimeco reminds me of um I’m going to compare it to Pokemon that’s not typing and then I’ll compare it towards typing, right? Obviously, it’s dual typing is amazing in from an U standard because you’re a cure. If you keep if you keep levitate, if you keep levitate, uh you take on Garchomp, you take on Curum like we’ve seen Bronzong recently hit rank one in OU in the Scarlet Violet. >> It is annoying. >> Literally, literally, literally. And this is Bronzong with recovery without rocks. That’s with knockoff with access to knockoff and actually a massive special attack stat. I think they did this Pokemon right. >> Yeah. 135 special attack and then it defenses are 110 and then 120 special defense. So this Pokemon has crazy move pool. Combine and cosmic power all options obviously but then it also has like cool options like encore defog if defog comes back when it but healing it. It can it can heal too right? Tribeco can heal which is pretty rare. >> It can heal well currently in SV because it’s one of the few mods that parong too. >> Um depending on the metag game it has rap as well. So rapless parasong is definitely an interesting option. We in there. We with them shadow. >> I also want to say they gave it taunt, bro. They gave chime taunt as well in ZA. So like this between that and psychic noise it feel and it has that it has a really good speed tier that’s like right between >> you’re faster than the slow mons like lefable hit. >> Yeah. 65 you you only need like minimal investment to get what you need. >> Yeah, but you’re slower than like the big mons so you can recover after they hit you. >> So you just natural resistance. It’s like it’s a bronze on recovery for me and I feel like this dual typing has always been good. Um, I think it’s going to really depend on if it has levitate, but if it does have levitate or, you know, some crazy combination of levitate plus >> liquid iron voice >> steelate boom burst. Steelate boom burst is coming, ladies and gentlemen. >> Yeah, boom burst. Exactly. But that that’d be crazy. But it reminds me of a Pokemon that will be kind of like hydrop and sinest u that will be in lower tier right below them, but we’ll see use in the higher tier. Absolutely. Because obviously it’s going to take a lot to like oh man let’s say Zard wise pulling around like obviously it’s going to be hard to use Chimeco but on certain balances I think this mod’s going to be crazy and it has a lot of anti-stall potential and not being able to be toxic like completely shutting down Claudzar completely shutting down doz as well with psychic noise plus your natural resistances like this thing will literally one v one you can also taunt like >> bro you don’t even have to I went for knockoff the other day I used it >> and I was knocking off heavy duty boots on on slow king and beating it on one v one >> cuz these steel types like all these steel types think they can come in and at least just take advantage. But no, nobody wants to lose their item. Like gold is not a free switch if I can knock on the switch. I even saw on a replay like zero special attack. Chimeco was still doing like 20 21% with syoid to gold. Like 135 even without investment hits 306. Next up, we have a mod that many were excited for when they saw it in the initial leaks that Mega Raptor was coming. But I did see I did see people not as pleased to see that it turned into a fighting flying type trying to copy Hawlucha, Flamigo, and Co. But it’s kind of grown on me. The bulk is good. Intimidate pre-mega is great because it has bulk up now. So, you can actually force something with that. Knockoff is cool, too. I don’t think this Pokemon is that bad. It does have an issue with the opportunity cost of other megas. We did compare it to Hawlucha quite a bit, but >> it’s lit like Hawlucha is better. But no, no, but I will say that in the in the tours, we saw this win the finals two times and it put in work both times because intimidate pre pre- evolution intimidate gives you the freest setup with bulk up after cuz it has heightened defenses and speed. So, I don’t think it’s like as bad as I once thought. I don’t think it’s going to be top tier OU at all, but I do I do think it’s a lot better than I thought simply because of that intimidate into bulk up like late game. >> Intimidate bulk up is nice. >> Yeah, late game or into that like >> like mid to late games. I I do think it’s good for taking a few mons out sweeping with this. Okay, that’s a little far-fetched in my opinion unless you’re running like the guy. He took away what Saraptor does which is kill itself while doing >> literally with a choice item and go to like obscene levels of power and they’ve done it a lot of favors in this tier giving it tough claw so that it’s close combat can actually break through scarmm like I saw tough claws brave bird too at koa slowb bro for example but like there are other offensive bird Pokemon look at scary SD for example who has the same speed a better typing weak armor which is just as similar as an a pre-intimidate when you get to the setting up aspect um it gives you speed you know what I mean so >> it’s lucha has way higher speed, way more defense, so like it will take a hit like an intimidate and can bulk up too and can encore >> also has better also has better support options. I would agree with that. >> Yeah, I’m really like they gave this Mongolian Zapto basically move set and so I’m like kind of like knock bulk up etc. >> I agree with you. It’s really hard for me to be like yeah uh this is a great mod to put on teams because why would you not use an unchoed version of of like the other fighting flying stuff we have or or the unmega version >> or a choice or a choice version? Sorry, that’s not me. Not un choice, but like the unmeged cuz the the opportunity cost of that is it’s heavy. It’s super heavy. Um, and this is what Lax was saying. We have so many megas now that the overlapping typings make it really difficult to pick some of these. And like even past Lucha and like Gapos and all that, it’s just like if I’m using a mega flying type with a Brave Bird, I’m looking at Scarm a lot of the time, you know? I’m looking at Yeah. So that >> final verdict is he’ll rule you. But I I think he’s like a low you like I think he’s better than Ratchux. >> We’re sure better. >> I’ll put it low B for now, but we’ll see if it needs to be demoted to high C cuz I can’t in good conscious put this in the same level as Chime. Obviously, that’s big. So, you can spam your biggest thing. You’re still weaker than a bandit starraptor. Actually, I think they’re still weaker than scarf starraptor with reckless or it’s about it’s about the same. >> What’s this? What’s this thing’s attack? Is it 150 >> It’s 140 versus 120 star. I’m pretty sure is definitely stronger. Yeah. 339 scarf reckless. Yeah, >> for sure stronger. >> But so, that’s a big one. But obviously Starraptor can only click its scarf moves once like or twice, right? And then it’s gone. >> Yeah. And then it’s big. And then they they also buff Starraptor by giving it knockoff. So even regular >> That’s pretty dope. That’s pretty dope that it had that instead of just like broird or double edge. Like come on, man. Like >> but it’s the it’s the opportunity cost as you said, right? It’s like why would I use Applin or sorry not Appleton in U right to Leech Seed or to Appleid? We’re not going to use Hydra. >> There are going to be Pokemon that just shout out class. And I Yeah. Yeah, for me the biggest one again is not even Hawluch on them. It’s just Scarm. Like why would I not SD with my Scarm and go crazy like they’re both weak to the same [ __ ] Scarm is going to have a better time. >> Doesn’t even mean that by the way. We’re taking it from like U right and then Uber will be uber. It doesn’t mean necessarily bad. So >> for sure still though uh shouts just a raptor. We’ll see more. All right. One of the most hyped ones. >> Mecca Absole now a dark ghost. We’re seeing a lot of swords dance. Uh it got shadow sneak close combat it has as well. And then knockoff. I think that’s the set we’re seeing the most of, right? Those three. >> Yeah. >> Yes. Uh we’ve seen pursuit as well with iron tail. >> Iron tail. Yeah. >> I think I think full full on attacking is actually the better ones. >> I probably won’t consider pursuit just cuz you know. >> Yeah. I think I think the reality is and I think not having pursuit makes it a lot worse actually cuz like this thing could trap any of the offensive psychotypes like mega del fox, mega star me. >> Oh, that’s actually true. With 151 speed, this is like we on crack in terms of if it it’s definitely not getting pursuit back. Yeah, pursu. We can’t get a big I wonder if the Z all get the same ability, right? Like a Moxy. >> Dude, so many people have been saying that theory. They’re like, “Do you think all of the 151 speed the Z guys are going to get the same ability?” I really hope not, but some type of hope not. I hope not. >> Some type of Moxy would be crazy for all of them. >> Oh, yeah. Just like I mean, they do that, right? They give beast boost to or style abilities to like Pokemon. >> Yeah, you have beast on beast and you have the the Karexes have their grim which is essentially the same >> um for special attack. So like >> photosynthesis, same thing. >> Exactly. So that’s what I’m >> Okay, now the theory is now the theory is really well defended. Even the quartet got that cheap ass [ __ ] where they boost one stat to like a really high amount. Okay. >> Yeah. >> Oh no. Imagine Imagine these three megas getting their choice of which stat to boost. That’s not a world I want to play in. >> I I just assume though it’d be what they’re best at. So it’d be attack on Absel, special attack on Garchomp, special attack on Lucario, then attack on Zero. All of which sound kind of threatening as hell. Es pretty is Abso’s pretty great. The bulk is always going to be the biggest issue with a Pokemon like this and it still proves to be quite an issue. Like you can force the switch in I mean the switch out with this Pokemon. It has good immunity though, bro. You’re faster than plus one Dragonite and you immunity speed. >> Yeah. Yeah. The type the typing is phenomenal. >> Being faster than Scar of Gold is crazy. >> Wow. >> Yeah. By just a little >> faster than the P too. Like I I feel like it’s an opportunity cost thing, but I think the knockoff is going to be so fast knockoff is huge. >> Oh, it’s the best knockoff in the game easily. >> You’re right. Fast knockoff and then you can fat is cooked. Fat is cooked when this thing stab move is crippling them to begin with. So I think we just need to see more different types of Absol structures. I think like it’s not only good on Ho. I think you can just have it in the back on like a bulky O as well and it could be a pretty easy cleanup. >> I think I think you pair this with like Heatran so you’re good into mag and genocide. Pretty much that’s you’ve done 90% of the work. >> Yeah. Compared with status spam thunder, >> it’s so it’s so strong. That does lead into like the only argument against Absel is if they just stay in and on your swords dance, they will oo you and you’ll be like, “Oh, there goes my mega.” You really have to outplay and like know that they need to keep that Pokemon and then you get the free sword. >> Can I talk about the mind games with this Pokemon though? >> Last night. >> Oh, dude. What I was thinking when you said mind game was I played against an annihilate on ladder and it it clicked drain punch as I turned mega cuz you can stay regular form and knock it off as they like ragefist you and it bounces off and then you can mega after and knock it out which which is actually funny in that like versus I think I think that only works versus like mons like ape specifically because it’s like versus great tusk or >> oh yeah take no I I agree in the current one yeah it’s definitely that Yeah.
