Cheat codes used to be button combos… now they’re paid DLC and microtransactions. In this Short I rant about how invincibility, level select and “big head mode” went from fun secret inputs to boring paywalled perks.
Back in the day you typed in cheat codes, used a Game Genie or grabbed a strategy guide and felt like a badass. Now devs sell you the ability to skip challenges in games that are already easier than ever, and it just makes “cheating” feel way more embarrassing than it used to.
I don’t hate modern games, I just miss when cheating felt like a secret handshake — not a receipt snitching on you in your transaction history.
