I have an old 3DS xl, in red, perfect condition. I recently found it as I was moving to my new house. I want to get this up and running again I had so many good memories playing on this as a kid.

However the Nintendo E-shop has stopped receiving support along with many other Nintendo apps.

I feel like I have a few options of what I can do with this and I wanted to get some input.

1- Mod this console, allows me to dump games I will upgrade the battery (no issues with the current one but better safe than sorry). Upgrade the storage, still has the stock 4gb SD card, I might get a 128gb micro SD and a converter and format it as FAT32.

2- Sell this and upgrade to the new 3DS xl. I noticed the firmware and hardware specs of the new 3DS xl are much better I mean double the ram, double the processing power. Maybe mod this too.

I wouldn’t want to be more than £20-50 out of pocket. I’d ideally want a good condition console as mine currently is mint no scratches (or discolouration) on screen or shells. So please let me know what I can do, how much would you reckon I’d get for this old 3DS xl?

    1. I modded my old original 3DS with plenty of games and it’s still running great! I personally don’t think you need to upgrade.

    2. Honestly, outside of being able to play Xenoblade on the new one (and you can play that on Switch anyway), having a regular one is all you’ll really need, so I’d say keep and mod it
