Every clip of gameplay I’ve seen from this game has been extraordinary beautiful. Just look at that photo! I’m wondering if it’s worth playing? Does this game have an open world befitting of its beauty, or is it more style than substance?

How does it compare to the most acclaimed open world games like Elden Ring, RDR2, Witcher 3, BOTW? Does it feel as atmospheric and interesting to be in?

    1. I preferred Zero Dawn, but they are both excellent games. Great story, and excellent combat/stealth in them. Unless you play on a lower difficulty setting, you have to consider your approach to encounters based on which type of arrows you will use for weak points etc.

    2. It’s great, story kind of peaked with zero dawn, that would be hard to beat any day. But forbidden west is the perfection of the horizon experience. Although I haven’t played the VR.

    3. When compared to BoTW / Witcher 3 / Elden Ring it doesn’t come close in terms of gameplay.

It’s a very beautiful game, with a bit lackluster story and uninteresting gameplay. I’d rate it 7/10, mostly because of the graphics. They help a lot when it comes to immersion.

      There’s a reason it’s considered a must-play for PlayStation owners 🙂

Go for it. Absolutely incredible games.

Edit: To answer your question, I wouldn’t say it feels “atmospheric” in the same sense as Bloodborne, Elden Ring etc. but the story is engaging and combat is top notch. Exploration is rewarding.

    5. Amazing combat and exploration. But the story is so boring and the worldbuilding jumped the shark compared to the first game.

    6. It really depends what you are looking for in a game. It is like a super duper high quality Ubisoft game.

I think both Horizons always lacked interesting characters and character interactions and used the old formulaic open world design to their determent. Graphics are amazing, combat is great, polish is top notch. Everything else is just OK.

Solid Open World RPG. Looks insane, the fights with the machines are fun. If you like other Open World games like AC, this is for you.

A small warning, if you want the full story/no spoilers, you have to play Zero Dawn first (thanks to the PS5 update, it looks just as good). Otherwise the story will be directly spoiled at the beginning of FW. If that doesn‘t bother you (like it didn‘t with me) you can also just start with FW.

    8. Im actually gonna go against the grain and say start with second game if you are new to it😀 Playing the first one will only make second one less exciting because they are so similar . Also playing them back to back is just way too much of the same kind . Im pretty sure my opinion is the minority but personally gameplay wise playing both will make second feel more like chore , despite improvements.

Story is better in the first tho 😬

    9. The overall game structure is your standard AAA open world action adventure with a truckload of map markers and side activities, but with interesting combat and a decent story. A lot more rewarding than, say, Assassin’s Creed.

For me it’s one of the best ps5 games.

Still top 3 In Graphics on the ps5 ( on PRO it’s insane )
Overall it’s just an epic game, loved exploring it. One of the only , if not only, Open World gam me where I never use fast travel, and just explore. Such a gorgeous world they built.

Only thing I didn’t like is that you have too many weapons, and there is no weapon that is good for everything, in Horizon: Zero Dawn the balance for me was better. 18 weapon wheel was annoying.

    11. The game looks absolutely incredible and the combat is good but the story was kinda boring for me

    12. Everything I thought the first game could have, came in this one. For example: the arena, the glider… New features in this FW. So, for me, it’s kind of a delayed game. It’s a fun game, good in terms of gameplay, and graphically I thought it was beautiful, but they pulled the loose end of the first game’s story and threw it away in the most idiotic way possible with this one’s story.

    13. Z-Dawn had a really good story. F-West has a completely mad story akin to some wacked out sci-fi film. So no, great open world map but none too exciting game.
