Hi! A few days ago I made a humorous post about my partner and this game.
Today I wanted to share my thoughts after finishing this game (amazing game!).
- Combat: I think the combat is fantastic, a dance. Forgiving enough for less skilled players, but punishing if you get overconfident, and in just two or three hits from certain bosses or enemies, you can end up having to restart the fight. The combos and abilities are great once you get the rhythm and don't let the enemy breathe. This is the best part for me, when you master your abilities well enough to give your enemy no respite.
- Story: I ended up liking it. While I thought it was weak at first, it gradually takes shape, and I was surprised that the final villain wasn't who I expected. It's not the most original story in the games, but it's very interesting and teaches you—or at least I think it tries to teach you—that you should make your own decisions, whatever your mission may be.
- Missions: This is the first game where I unlocked all the side missions on my first playthrough (and almost all the optional content). I even came close to many platinum achievements (some camps, upgrading skills, and so on, but all of them were around 90%). The only things I found tedious were the cans and fishing, hahaha. The pacing surprised me. Let me explain: the first part is a bit slow, but you really do decide what to do and the pace. The second part feels like a boss rush, and I feel there's some dissonance in the rhythm. Perhaps it's my fault for getting too caught up in the beginning.
- Enemies and Environment: While the first and second areas were interesting, the third was a bit disappointing. The enemies vary depending on the environment, but I was a little disappointed by the repetition of some bosses that end up being regular enemies, or the "dual" fights with the aforementioned problem.
Verdict: It's one of the best combat and gameplay experiences I've ever had, and that catapults it very high in my ranking. I like good stories, but if you give me a great fight, you've won me over. I liked its aesthetic, and I liked Eve's way of thinking and acting (reconsidering whether what she's doing is right or wrong). I think it's absolutely worth it and could surprise someone who's hesitant about buying it. (I've included a screenshot of me fighting one of the bosses I found most fun.)
