I just modded my New 3Ds with usb c today. Everything was perfectly fine. The only problems I had was some of the ribbon connectors weren’t plugged in properly. So I went back and fixed that. Eventually the only thing not plugged in properly was the home button. I went back, got it working, assembled the whole thing… basically no signs of life now. I press the power button, nothing. I plug it in, nothing, except for an occasional light of it charging and a very light barely noticeable almost crackly sound. What do I do? This is my childhood 3Ds and I really want it to work. More importantly what the hell did I do wrong?

The port where the home button’s ribbon cable plugs into is a type of port that you aren’t supposed to pull up (or touch at all really), the cables are designed to be pulled from the port without any need to move the latch. From what I can see it looks like all of them were pulled up, which is why you are seeing these issues. You might be able to use the tip of your stylus to press them back down enough to where the cables make contact… Or they may need replacements.
