I wouldn’t have it any other way

I mean when the competition is simply shooting itself in the foot, Steam can just do nothing and still win. W business strategy. Just don’t suck.

    2. Steam is pretty good, although it’s important to note that pretty much every competitor is objectively bad. It’s like winning in a footrace against a toddler. It doesn’t make you the best, it just means you’re better right now.

    3. Steam isn’t a monopoly though? They have done basically nothing to try and discredit, destroy or buy out competitors. Hell, Gabe Newell actively encourages competition for PC gaming.

There’s a difference between being the best choice and being the only choice.

    4. Who thinks Steam is doing a good job?
      *all*

Who thinks everyone else is doing worse?
      *all*

Other platforms would share the market if they were as good as steam 🤷🏻‍♂️

Maybe there’s a reason why it’s a monopoly and everyone gravitates to Steam instead of other launchers…

They aren’t a monopoly though, the rest just have had a mediocre product for so long that they got the market share they deserve.

Game store front isn’t exactly a complex product with a high cost of entry.

      Steam is NOT a monopoly.

It’s just the top 1 gaming store on PC and whoever is third or forth is a complete waste of time.

    9. Steam has a monopoly on good service. They were the first in the game and just never did anything overly scummy or political.

    10. Can’t make this up, competitors keep shooting themselves.

      Steam does nothing = Win

Steam does somethings = Wins harder.

I don’t understand how people think it has a monopoly. There are plenty of exclusive console games, xbox game pass, gog and even epic has fortnite. It’s a really weak argument and dismissing these things only hurts steam.

I don’t mind capitalism. I mind it as an anti consumer tool to make the rich richer. All steam has done is make me happier.

They are the only company I don’t mind have a complete foothold over an industry right now

    14. Game developers don’t have to just go to Steam to sell their games. Players prefer steam because they give the players significantly more features without needing to charge more per game because they made an agreement with developers that they can’t sell a game more than what it’s going for on Steam (MFN) and then charge 30%.

Other companies give a fraction of what steam offers for just a little bit more back.
