It really depends how sensitive you are to blurriness. It’s not unplayable or anything.

The DS games are slightly blurred because the screen is lower-res than the 3DS screen. However, that’s only really a problem with the 3DS/2DS XL. The small 3DS isn’t as bad, and it doesn’t even affect the gameplay experience anyway (subjectively).

The first game I played in the 3DS happened to be a game for the DS: New Super Mario Bros.
It wasn’t even that bad, I thought nothing bad of it.

The dsi xl is the definitive best way to play ds games and there’s no debate.
Whether it’s fine on a 3ds or not really depends. It’s certainly not unplayable, but it’s definitely blurry compared to an nds. If you mainly want to play nds games, I’d go with the dsi xl.
