I'm new to the world of gaming monitors (as you'll see by the rest of this post). I am trying to create a set up where I can use one high quality monitor for both my Xbox Series X and my Macbook.
Originally I got the Alienware 32inch Curved 4k OLED gaming monitor, and it looked great for the Xbox. However I did not like the extra height and lack of horizontal space it had for my Macbook (I have an dell ultrawide 34inch at work and I love it for getting work done and being able to stack to full windows next to eachother).
So i went ahead and returned the AW 32inch monitor and swapped it for the AW 34inch ultra wide OLED. Not 4k, but i don't see a big enough difference when plugging in my Macbook. The problem: As I said, i'm new to this and while i thought i was doing enough research, I clearly forgot to look up how a 34inch ultrawide would look with an Xbox. If you don't know, it stretches the Xbox image to fit the screen and doesn't look great. I can remedy this by changing the aspect ratio on my monitor so it puts black bars on the sides and the Xbox image looks normal.
Only issue with that is I don't LOVE the black bars, but i'm sure i would get used to it? And also i'm lazy and don't want to have to go into my monitor settings every tap i swap from macbook>xbox.
I am kind of over returning these things, and I think I want to keep this AW 34inch because it does look beautiful with the macbook AND who knows, maybe ill join PC one day or xbox will support 21:9 ratio one day?
With that said, I'm considering getting a larger desk and getting a decent 27inch gaming monitor to put in the center with my AW 34inch to the side. Macbook could be in the middle when working, then closed when its time to game on the 27inch.
Any recommendations on making this set up ideal for my situation that doesnt involve returning the AW 34inch? Anyone agree with the idea of adding a 27inch?
Thanks in advance for any responses!
