To my knowledge Sleeping Dogs also had way smaller map, while there’s only 1 year difference between release dates. Having less area gives more time to enrich it more

Sleeping Dogs is incredibly slept on if you pardon the pun, underrated and under appreciated as hell. Not a perfect game sure but a lot of fun

Sleeping Dogs had a smaller,albeit,jam packed map. GTA 5 while having a good environment has a lot more empty space relative to its map size.
