I downloaded 3dsident on my homebrew new 3ds XL to look at my screen types (upper ips lower tn for those curious) and it says the model is a red 3ds? its always been a green one, it was bought from nintendo probably 10 years ago roughly, is this just some strange thing that happens to a modded console where it thinks its a red model for some reason? or am i misinterpreting what this means?

I’m not entirely sure, but maybe they used a motherboard for a red instead…? Not sure if that would cause that or not, just theorizing

Also, I’ve got the same ips/tn combo you have on my first n3dsxl lol-

    2. You know how you see three letter code names for every model of everything Nintendo has made, often on the back or bottom of the unit? Like WUP for the Wii U, RVL (which is short for Revolution) on the Wii, NTR for the original DS, etc.

RED is simply the code they decided to use for the New 3DS XL specifically, and is probably a shortened version of their internal code name. Nothing more. Has nothing to do with the color of the unit. If you were using an original 3DS, you’d have CTR there (apparently standing for Centrair), an original 3DS XL would say SPR, an original 2DS would say FTR, a standard size New 3DS would say KTR, and a New 2DS XL would say JAN.

We don’t know what a lot of these actually are shortenings of, though.
