Same here, I cannot remember it being a slog, even at first, I have no idea why people who dislike it say so

I just started this game for the first time a few days ago. I haven’t been this immersed in a game since Hogwarts Legacy dropped. I’m a causal gamer and a huge HP fan.
Red dead 2, Elden ring, the last of us part 2 and Claire obscure expedition 33

RDR2 for me as well. Bought it during the COVID lockdown and started playing. I remember thinking of how Arthur reminded me of my dad (mannerisms and overall look, especially with a stache). He passed away during that time and Arthur became something more than just a character. I played to spend time with him. Go hunting and fishing (things my dad loved to do), camp out, see the sunrise…anything and everything.
Then the end came and it hit me like a truck. It was a journey I’ll never experience again but one that I’ll never forget.

Death Stranding. It’s a game about making connections.. and i made about 10 new friends by sharing my love for the game. Not to mention story beats that hit hard!

The OG Demon’s Souls. The game was my introduction to Fromsoft and the Souls games. I was absolutely hooked and loved the setting and atmosphere. It was my gateway drug into a genre that pretty much ruined a lot of other games for me. Dark Souls I-III, Bloodborne, and especially Elden Ring formed the vast loosely connected worlds that have me coming back over and over again for more.

Red dead 2 is god damn peak immersion. Everything that happened in that story was fantastic and you really did feel like you were arthur. Had one of **THE BEST** endings in recent games, imo, (next to red dead 1) and was enjoyable the entiiiireeee time.
It changed my life in a way that makes me shit on many games from “AAA” studios for not being anywhere near the set caliber that RD1 and RD2 had set.

If I’m honest, it was the first Destiny game, because I sank an obscene number of hours into that game. There were a bunch of us that played every day, doing all the shit multiple times, trying to get everyone the gear. In retrospect, I regret ever playing it.
But in terms of changing my life gaming wise, it’s Witcher 3, and God of War 2018 three years after that. Witcher changed what I expected from RPGs, and GoW did the same with third person actioners, with puzzle elements and absolute S-tier writing and performances.

Red Dead Redemption II for me as well because it made me take a second to just take in a scene and appreciate the living, breathing world the people at Rockstar created. Watch some songbirds flit by overhead, bucks locking horns in the valley beyond, a bear scratching its back on a tree, simply watching a sunrise or sunset. It’s fundamentally changed how I approach other games as well, where I take my time and observe rather than try to get to the end as quickly as possible.

The Witcher 3 wild hunt. As someone that almost views everything in a negative way. This game really opened my eyes in seeing that good things can still happen in hard times. Also the music is just so damn relaxing that it truly puts me to sleep.
