I normally game on PS5 and also have a gaming PC i haven't touched in forever so I didnt know if this was unique to this game or because of some Xbox One feature.

But this has to be run from an emulator or whatever streaming an Xbox series X version I think so why would there be that option when 60 FPS is the new performance Standard on that Gen?

I assume this comproises the resulting a bit to achieve, but is my console or the streamed one causing the slight bump in performance.

Has anyone seen something like this before?

Xbox started doing this with starfield. It gives you good performance while targeting visuals. I think it really only works on hdr tvs though. But 40fps is 33% more smooth than 30 fps

I’ve played Starfield at 40fps, it’s smoother than 30 and can reach 1440p.

It’s just a middle option, like it

    3. 40fps is getting more and more common, it’s a middle ground to allow for ray tracing and better fidelity, higher resolution etc. on a high refresh display, such as 120Hz, 40fps sits nicely and with VRR on, even feels fluid like 60 and less like 30.

Been a thing since at least 2020, so it’s not new, you just only see the option if you’re on a high refresh display. Or, potentially in this case, if the game hasn’t been coded right to only show the option when it detects a 120Hz display.

    4. 40fps isn’t super common, but it’s been around. You may need a TV with VRR to get the most out of it and not sure if it’s any help on streaming.

    5. Xbox Series X / PS5 games generally have the 40 FPS mode, which is to be used with 120 Hz monitors/tvs (idk why, never tested it myself, but apparently it looks great in motion)

    6. I think Ubisoft did this also on Shadows. If your TV/screen supports 120 VRR it enables a 40 quality mode.

I can be mistaken but I changed TVs during my playtime on Shadows and noticed this option while using the new TV, and just recently started playing Pandora through GamePass and noticed the same…
