I get this actually. Playing RE4 helped me get into Resident Evil because Leon is a bull in a china shop in that game so it’s far less scary of an experience.

Considering half of RE9 is RE4 Leon, makes it easier to handle.

    2. Same lol. I played resident evil 4 remake it was genuinely a really good game but I’d get scared too often so eventually stopped.

I enjoyed watching a few playthroughs online instead but requiem is looking really good. I think I’ll tough it up and get it someday

It’s not really that scary compared to other games that are actually designed and focused on just scaring the sh!t out of you… RE is more on the survival/horror/action genre, especially if you have Leon as the protagonist lol

    4. I don’t even like going under water in games because of the fear of the unknown and I absolutely *hate* jump scares

I just started playing RE 1 remake after years of feeling this way and I am disappointed its not more scary. I am enjoying it now that I have gotten the hang of it but I expected more.

    6. Video games are the best possible medium for the horror genre. Name any horror movie scarier than playing Alien:Isolation, I dare you.

I’ve never been bad at resi, until I played that vr one with headphones on.

I’m a grown ass man and I turned it off when his girlfriend crawled up the stairs!

    8. i can never play horror game. the item management stressing me even when watching people play the game. usually just watch Maximilian play the game on YouTube.

    9. i only played a very small amount of Resi 4 (could not get past the opening bit with the chainsaw man guy) and Resi 5 (almost finished it but the boulder punching was too insane for me to like keep it up). i have never really been truly interested in the series and i do not do horror at all. it kind of bores me? but i hope everyone who is getting the new game enjoys it though

    10. Good way to get used to it is honestly to play eihter RE4, RE7 or RE8. They are somewhat less horror and more action oriented in a way. RE7 and 8 def got more horror elements to it, but it was definitely more bearable.

      I started with 7, then 8, then 4. Then, I played 2 and 3.
*I played the remakes of 2, 3 and 4, not the og ones

Edit: Note that for 8 and 4 I thought I would be “Brave” so I played it on PSVR2. I will never recover after the basement baby chase in 8

    11. I played a little bit of RE2 Remake, RE7, and I bought RE4 Remake but I haven’t beaten any of them cuz I’m a big old pussy.

    12. We the same lmao

I played resident evil on my ps1 way back and I guess I got traumatized and never touched it again

Maybe soon I’ll try it again after I put a dent on my backlogs

    13. I’ve only played 5 all the way through, co-op with a friend. I tried to play the 2 remake and I didn’t really know what to do so I gave up lol after running around the police station for a while and haven’t touched it since 😂

      I loved playing 5 though. I think I’d probably like 4 and 7, 8, and 9.

    14. Honestly thinking I wouldn’t enjoy playing it. 🫠 Looks incredible artistically and technically but I’m not a fan of horror so maybe not my cup of tea… I did play a bit of Silent Hill when I was younger – nowadays I feel like Alan Wake is tense enough 🫣

    15. RE4 makes you feel like a bad ass but still vulnerable, new game plus makes it feel even more bad ass. The game prior make you feel so weak and even more vulnerable, especially the tank controls oh god.

Same, I purchased *Resident Evil 3* during the holidays (it was on sale) but I am too scared to play horror games

I was the same, and now i love horror games, i mean i loves them before but i was to scared to play.

Now i’ve played a lot of horror games, the RE franchise, Silent Hill 2 remastered, Evil Within, Blairwitch, Alan Wake 1 and 2, Aliena Isolation, etc…, so you could try a horror game, about something that doesn’t scare you too much, and go slowly, it starts to get easier to play these games, and you’ll be less scared.

But if it really brothers you, you could just try to watch someone playing it, i know i do it with a bunch of games i find to stressful, like RE 7 Biohazard, it’s too claustrophobic, and stressful for me, Visage is another one.

I’ve watched people play them instead, what matters is to have fun.

    18. The Original Resident Evil 4 is the least “scary” one, IMO–there are definitely intense moments but there’s a lot of cheesy one-liners and silly monologuing villains. Revelations 1 is another one that’s really action-focused.

Alternatively, dive headfirst into this nonsense and buy a PSVR1 to play RE7. Nothin’ like some exposure therapy.
