I had wondered for a while, whatever happened to coupon drops earned by crafting badges. I believe Valve ended up cutting them entirely around a year or so back, but I thought I'd check the badge FAQ to see if they still say anything about coupons. And yeah, they continue to claim a chance for them to drop. When I went to the trading card page itself though, they were a little more prominently featured as well, still.
Not hard to figure why obviously, these pages just haven't been updated in over a decade, one of many instances strewn throughout Steam's platform, and definitely not news to anyone by this point. A lot of legacy pages tend to be relatively innocuous, but I think this is at least a bit pressing to those who aren't already thoroughly familiar with Steam, and might try actively going after these coupons without any knowledge that they're just a cut feature nowadays. I always remembered the coupons relatively poorly in that they'd frequently drop for really terrible low effort titles, but I distinctly remember getting a good deal on Gato Roboto once through it, which was pretty cool.
Also noticed something I'd never seen before, and that was Greenlight showcases being featured on this page. Even more interestingly than that, being the fact that Delver's Drop is featured within it as well. It earned over $150k on Kickstarter, but 13 years on, it's still not out yet. Looks like the dev is still putting out updates on their page though, so kudos to them I suppose.
Just thought this made for an interesting little time capsule, fun to read through and look back at the old Steam.
You can find this page by clicking 'Read the FAQ' on the badges page, and then 'Back to the update page' from there.
