This New 3DS will turn 10 years old on March 30, 2026.
I don't use it much because a few years ago I bought a New 2DS XL for more everyday use. The battery has never been replaced and still holds a charge well. The console has never been modified, and I have no intention of doing so. I prefer to use it occasionally, only for games I've purchased from the e-shop and for those I consider best for playing with the 3D effect. Should I remove the battery from the console if I don't use it for months, or is it better to leave it in and charge it every now and then? If I remove the battery, won't I lose my data? Sorry if similar questions have already been asked, but I prefer to get updated opinions, since the prices of these consoles have risen to the same level, and I'd like to preserve my console as best as possible.

Get a bottom screen protector and a clear plastic shell.
Charge it every few months, when you do inspect the bottom of it for bulges. If you see a bulge do not charge, immediately disassemble it and remove the battery.
Don’t leave it in the sun, not in a humid environment, not exposed to high temperatures.
Honestly if you want it to last, no scratches or peeled paint you’re best bet on paper, and probably in practice would be to send it to me, for free. I’m really good with my stuff. Like literally the best. Plus the benefit of sending it to me is how good you’ll feel knowing your nostalgia is in safe hands.
I have an N3DSXL console from around 2017. Compared to my brother’s at the time who got one and is obviously used in quality when he had it new.
I would just recommend to use it whenever you’d like but with care obviously. Screen protectors which I do wish I got, but get those and a shell protector. Keep an eye on that battery too.
My console was sitting unused since around 2022-2023 before I found it. Same thing with my brother whose console and battery still worked and was fine, but it was out of place and not broken like he thought. The only issues are when opening or closing the system, it could just freeze on a frame and stay like that until it was forcibly restarted.
First of all, congratulations on having a genuine Yokai 3.
Best game in the console 🙂
Have a similar case with my N3DSXL.
What I do:
1) Always have a ~50% charge. Check it once per 2-3 months and maintain the charge in this range (2 out of 4 battery indicator lines)
2) Keep it away from any light in a dry environment. Maybe have a few silica gels nearby.
3) Open the system every 2-3 months. Play a game for 10-20 minutes. Let the battery actually work, and discharge naturally. Charge it again back to ~50% for long storage.
4) Open & close the hinge slowly. I know it sounds like babying. But that’s what I do seeing how many models have hinge cracks.
