Its a shame people’s jobs can be lost so quickly in this industry, I wish the best for the developers.

Excuse me y’all had 2 million players try the game and you couldn’t retain even a small fraction?

WHAT HAPPENED. WHAT WAS THE PLAN?!

From being announced in December to shutting down in March. The history of this game is honestly insane.

Sucks for the devs though. Plenty of talented ex-Respawn and OG Infinity Ward devs there. Hope they find new jobs soon. This game just wasn’t it though. Nowhere near as good as their previous work.

I’m not going to defend Concord here (that was obviously also a massive failure), but at least that game had a normal marketing cycle where the game was announced a year or so before launch and there was an open beta. Highguard didn’t even had that, going quiet after the game awards and wanting to do the shadowdrop approach “because we did it before with Apex!” was just a terrible decision.

Should’ve promoted the game between its reveal and launch, had a public beta test, and listened to your player base :T

    5. The industry really needs to come to terms with the fact that most players have already found their ‘forever game’, and even if gamers had infinite money (they don’t) they certainly don’t have infinite time. It takes special games to pry people away from one game and onto another, and most games will fail because they’re simply not special.

    6. Some of y’all are ghouls that just act like that grim reaper meme going door to door acting like it’s your job to personally see games fail. And I realize Highguard sucks but it’s crazy how much some of y’all have been edging yourselves for this day.

      Enjoy your victory lap.

I feel this is gonna lead to a culture of people not wanting to get into live service games anymore because they shut down so quickly. It’s good if you dislike live service games as it will lead to fewer developers launching live service games, but it’s bad for people who like live service games as it will just lead to the further consolidation of the few popular ones (Fortnite, Overwatch, Arc Raiders) and there will be less experimentation. The age of new trends breaking out like Battle Royale are over, as the big names have completely engulfed this genre. A way to combat this is probably not going all in on live service games, the whole point of them is that they are constantly evolving, so keep it simple at the start, then evolve from there.

Im not a big multiplayer gamer but the way the community shits on online games and actively prays for their downfall is wild, pretty soon they’ll be nothing to play lol

This genre fucking sucks because it treats its customers like idiots. It reminds me of other big corporate media like star wars/marvel where the IP and premise start fine but these focus group/consultant corporate types lord the shareholder board priorities over the creatives and the product ends up the most uninspired and bland version of itself

lasted longer than concord, and hey, it was lasted longer than a housefly so that’s good.

    11. Video games (like most sports/entertainment) are just another means of money laundering for organized crime… change my mind.
