Squeezed a white dot on my 3DS XL screen and created an air bubble — screen protector or mite?

I noticed a small white dot near the top of my 3DS XL’s upper screen. When I pressed it, it spread into an air bubble. I’m not sure if there’s a screen protector on it or not.
Could this be a bubble under a screen protector, or could something like a mite be trapped under it? Has anyone dealt with this before and how did you fix it?
