      Or maybe it’s just because Nintendo doesn’t want to sacrifice the brand identity of their most successful series in gaming by making the game strictly focus around crossover characters…

      Game Freak allows Pokemon characters in Smash Bros. So I don’t think that’s an issue at all.

      Also Nintendo themselves co-own Pokemon anyway.
