what is the strategy here then? They want to make sure their subscription service survives right? The majority of the subscribers are console owners. If they effectively eliminate their console ownership numbers with this move, how are they growing/maintaining their subscription revenue?

Are they relying on publishing revenue only now which will be majority from playstation/pc next generation? Their constant shifts in strategy is mind boggling.

Oof bet the next generation will be even worse sale numbers. Think id rather stuck with PC/Sony for their exclusives

I mean anyone that bought an Xbox console is already niche. At least they don’t have to do that stupid series s bullshit anymore.

      Yeah no shit

You just can’t make a cheap budget pc, especially with all the stuff going on today. It was never going to be a mass market device, even without tariffs and ram shortages.

    5. This might actually be good for me. I’m hoping I fall into that niche audience.

It it’s an Xbox that also works sort of like a Steam Machine then I’m in.

This source isn’t reliable. They also said Project Helix is being released to fail so they can shutter Xbox.

“Steam Machine same power as ps5 and between £900-£1100? ..lets do it!!”

“Xbox Helix five to seven times more powerful than ps5 but £1000? …..Hellz nah”

So if this is for “dedicated Xbox fans” then where is the announcement for the casual version? The next gen version of the “series s” ?

Cause at that point it better to just buy a dedicated gaming pc, if there are going to be a lot of “play anywhere” titles anyway.

But to leave a lot of Xbox fans on previous gen hardware is stupid.

We’ll be lucky if it is less than 1000 at this point. It is probably just a rebadged high end PC. Curious how they handle multiplayer. I can’t imagine the outrage if they lock it behind a subscription for the PC crowd.

Well yes we know it’s going to be expensive they’ve already said so

It can’t be subsidized like consoles traditionally are since they can’t guarantee where you will buy the games from and the accessories

Plus since it’s going to be expensive it will need to be priced higher to offset the low sales

If this is indeed releasing in 2027 I don’t see how it’s going to be cheaper than $1200.00 USD

    11. The source is the same person who previously said the next Xbox (Project Helix) probably won’t happen.

Dumb massive piles of salt over everything these wannabe “insiders” claim. They don’t know anyone within Xbox. especially that flip-flopper who first claimed that Xbox is doomed with the next Xbox.

Pretty sure selling like 1/5 of your competitor makes you a niche console already.

    14. This has been known for months

“The next-gen console is going to be a very premium, very high-end curated experience”

Sarah Bond – President of Xbox

      From October 2025.

I swear you guys live under a rock at times.

    15. If that niche audience is people who were planning on building their first PC next generation then that’s me.

I feel everything “next gen” is going to be expensive. Future ps/xbox I feel is going to be similar in price.

In order for it to appeal to people it needs increase in tech and capabilities from current gen. And that’s going to cost. No matter the name behind it (Sony,Microsoft,Nintendo,valve/steam)

only way something will affordable imo is if the tech isn’t as good. (Steambox compared to Xbox’s tech the insides for instance) or a situation where we see something like the series s/x where one is little underpowered than the other.

I mean if this is a decent to good PC that can also play my Series X discs then it could be a very tempting purchase to be honest,

    18. A native windows experience means you’ll have to deal with crashes updates, incompatibility issues etc, I personally will have to wait and see before taking the plunge

Pretty sure it`s gonna be the XBOX final edition. Very niche, very demure.
