I’ve run into a strange issue with my 3DS where it won’t stay powered on if the motherboard is touched or pressed anywhere within the highlighted region of the first image, and now even some nearby areas are causing the same problem.

The system also won’t power on at all when the SD card backplate (the black plate that sits before the RF shield) is installed, even if it’s only secured with a single screw.

I’ve noticed corrosion on the SD card backplate (second image), the RF shield (partially visible on the far right of the first image), and on the flap of the P12 connector (third image). Other than those spots, I haven’t seen any obvious damage. I tried cleaning the corrosion on the connector flap, but it’s been pretty difficult to remove completely.

Before this started happening, I replaced the speaker ribbon cable and the bottom screen. When pressure is applied to the affected area, the 3DS makes the same popping sound as it would if either of those were damaged, and immediately shuts off.

At this point I’m starting to think the motherboard might be damaged, but I’m honestly not sure. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, and I’d be down to provide any more photos or info if needed.
