Steam Deck is still worth it four years later, says poll, but people are starting to think “it’s about time” for a sequel – PC Guide
Anyone ready to drop $1k+ on Steam Deck 2? Personally, I'd rather see better support for games before they try fleecing us to replace what isn't broken….
The RAMpocalypse makes now a specifically *bad* time for any sort of hardware update.

I feel like Valve doesn’t have much of a reason to upgrade the hardware for a bit longer. It’s still an extremely capable device that was never meant to crush triple A games. There’s no need to be crazy about it, especially in this market, and I think they know that
It feels like Valve is trying to slowly build out a solid and functional ecosystem with hardware. Let’s see how the Steam Machine does and then evaluate what the next step on hardware should be

Yeah, I’d buy a new one, but with what’s happening to both RAM and storage prices, I don’t see it happening anytime soon.

I’m sorry but I feel like the PC gaming community doesn’t really understand the handheld market. The entirety of the Switch 1 generation was kept afloat by people waiting on ports of old games they’re suddenly able to play on the go. You have the overwhelming majority of the steam library at your hands and you’re demanding new hardware at a significantly higher price and much worse battery life just so you can play Final Fantasy 7 for 45 minutes at 60 fps medium FSR3

1) repost
2) As I said on the last one, we should wait for Steam Deck 2, because it’s the last one we’ll ever get. Steam doesn’t do 3.

I just bought one, so I disagree. It is *not* time!

SOME people are starting to think it’s time for a sequel. Most (nearly 70%) still feel that it is relevant. Valve themselves haven’t really even pushed for a Steam Deck 2. They know at some point it will come, but they haven’t actually considered a timeframe based on the info the general public has.
This is literally just a random survey through a site that isn’t affiliated with Valve, and like most of these polls, you will have Xbox Ally and Switch 2 fans saying that the Steam Deck is aging poorly because they aren’t Steam Deck people anyways.

I would not be surprised if another 2 years pass before Steam Deck 2 is revealed. I’d bet that the SD2 will be designed to work with the Valve ecosystem of devices.
Valve may switch to ARM cores to keep pushing power to performance, support background downloads/updates, and a wider market for off the shelf and semi-custom SOCs. They laid the groundwork for ARM support while developing FEX for the Steam Frame.

No one is fleecing anyone for fucks sake. Are you forced to buy things?

Consumers are just stupidly addicted to “upgrading” their devices thanks almost entirely to Apple. Most don’t even know what the difference is from year-to-year.

Hell yeah it is! I’ve been playing a ton of Esoteric Ebb on my deck and it’s been great.

I’m waiting on Steamdeck 2, if the specs is right I will put 1k easily.

Maybe in another 2 plus years. Or at least after ram prices come down a bit
