I expected around an 75-80 on metacritic.
This is on PC so the reviews are probably going to be worse on console. Pearl Abyss really hit the marketing out of the park though!
Not surprised. The hype is going to work to its disadvantage on the user review side too I suspect. There are going to be a lot of disappointed pre-orders.
I love how y’all will rail against these reviews when it’s a game you like, but hold them up as gospel when it’s a game you don’t.

I thought crimson desert was an updated version of black desertbfor the whole time. Similar to that updated version of Vindictus.
It would appear that the PS5 Pro would be the ideal platform for playing this game with the upgraded PSSR. The problems with PCs lie in the sheer number of configurations and components that can impact your experience, unlike bespoke hardware like consoles.

I want to ask you all something which I really don’t understand: why is a 79/100 considered “mediocre”?
I mean, game rating is not like school/college where anything below 50/100 is a failure. When rating a game, 5/10 or 50/100 should be considered “average”, since it’s exactly in the middle.
For example, I personally would give Days Gone an 80/100. I really love that game, and the only reason its rating is not in the 90s is its first few hours (if you’ve played it you’ll understand). However, I definitely wouldn’t consider Days Gone just a mediocre game, it’s a great experience in my opinion.
Why does it seem like everyone considers 79/100 to be “mediocre”? The same goes for Metroid Prime 4 which came out a few months ago, it received a similar score and was considered bad. Yeah, it definitely wasn’t as good as the original trilogy, but it was still far from a bad or below-average game.
Game look amazing, picking up regardless/ never listen to reviews and trust what you actually see. Stop looking for validation in reviews.

Seems solid. Having read through some of the flaws, particularly enemy balancing, sounds a bit jarring.

Until I see the console reviews I’m not accounting for anything. Overall it’s in my ballpark as a game but poor optimization takes everything a couple notches down.

Almost all of them are saying the same thing. A single player game in MMO style. I don’t know how to feel about it. MMOs are MMOs for a reason.
Grind won’t bother you because you will enjoy things in other areas. Other players are the lifeline of the game etc.
Removing the multiplayer aspects and calling it a single player … I always wanted something like this in my World of Warcraft days, but right now I am not so sure.

Good rule of thumb with reviews… for every 10 reviews, take out the highest and lowest rating. That will give you a better idea. Weeds of the super fans and the trolls. So probably a little higher than the 77 right now.
I haven’t been able to make my mind up, as I didn’t follow it closely and expected an RPG. I got more interested recently, then lost some interest.
A 7-8/10 is a good score, but the game is also around $100 here and I have a lot to play.
