Day 1 buyers of the pro, what are your thoughts on the console years later

    1. I bought it for the miniscule performance improvements to Gran Turismo 7 VR.
The better wifi has been good for PlayStation Portal for sure.

I wouldn’t say it’s been worth the money.. until Resident Evil Requiem. And now I feel, with PSSR’s updates (PSSR2?), I’m excited about PS5 Pro again.

    2. Initially I bought it for GT7 and thought the improvement was good enough… but outside of that, I felt a little that I’d wasted my money. But now with PSSR2 and so many games getting native patches I feel a little more vindicated in my purchase. Now is definitely a good time to upgrade. Felt like at launch we were just beta testing.

    3. its not worth it, the cpu is basically the same as a base ps5 which means performance isnt any better and thats the whole point of a upgrade…

LOL, the Pro only started to make real sense yesterday with the latest update of PSSR before that it was simply not worth it because in many cases you were forced to have a worst technical experience with some games compared to the one you’ll have with the base PS5.

    5. I love it.

I already had a PS5, but I had enough kudos points earned at work to get a Pro. Didn’t have expectations as it didn’t cost me a penny to upgrade, but with the recent updates it’s really become my daily gaming platform.

Best decision ever. Some games don’t have much difference but most games run better, anything pro enhanced is far better. You do need a really good TV to actually experience just how much better it is though

    7. I didn’t get it at launch but I’m glad it got it when I got it. Just before the RAM crisis hit. I got it for about 20% off retail.

I’m not exaggerating when I say this, I could not play FF7 Rebirth on the base PS5. Fidelity was too choppy and Performance mode was too blurry.

And it keeps getting better. PSSR2.0 looks to be the bee’s knees.

2TB of storage is very convenient. Especially now with the skyrocketing prices of NVMe’s.

I wish it came with the disc drive but oh well. Can’t win ’em all.

I say this every time this question is asked, but it’s genuinely the biggest waste of money I’ve ever spent.

I wish I’d just stuck with the base PS5

    9. Happy. Esspecially now that we finally see software advancements that take advantage of its extra power. But mostly because I knew if my base PS5 didnt get retired last year it would be struggling to keep up by now. If I wasnt a “power user” I dont think it would have been necessary. But since that device is on for a minimum of 4 hours a day, im happy to have upgraded when I didm

I loved it from day one paired with my LG 77″ B2 at the time and noticed an OBVIOUS difference in FF7 Rebirth almost instantly because I remember that game’s performance mode looking like it was covered in Vaseline. Games like Ratchet and clank rift apart and God of War really didn’t look that much better in my opinion, but Horizon forbidden West? That game looked wildly impressive, for the first time I felt like I was truly playing a PC game on my console. Those were all games I had played previously on the base PS5.

Moving forward to newer games, I don’t have a reference to the base as I traded it in with GameStop’s promotion but I’ve enjoyed most of the visuals in all the upgraded titles including Baldurs Gate 3, Stellar Blade, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, Space Marine 2, Ninja Gaiden 4 Alan Wake 2 (still need to finish this ever since PSSR 2) and many more. Overall I think it was an extremely worthy purchase for two main reasons. I had an amazing OLED display and I like getting a lot of new games (huge shout-out to Black Friday deals and critics choice awards sale).
If I only played COD and NBA 2K/Fifa/Madden (like half of America probably does) then this would genuinely be a waste of money, I don’t even care if they technically are also pro enhanced.

My only gripe is the wildly different standards some devs call “Pro enhanced”. Some will include PSSR, 4K60, the works, and some other dev will just have “increased resolution” and nothing else. Also, I thought Sony had a “mandate” that all new games (At the very minimum AAA) were to be pro enhanced, yet Borderlands 4 dropped without one. However, I hear that game was hot donkey ass even on high end PCs and the CEO was a douch in regards to performance so.

But with PSSR 2 recently dropping, I’ve noticed a huge upgrade in clarity on my C5, predominantly with MGS Delta, so the value of this machine just went up tenfold. Plus with crimson desert launching today, and Wolverine, phantom blade 0, GTA6, 007 all coming later this year? We’re all eating good.
