Nintendo always has sky high expectations for themselves.
They did see less consoles sold in first holiday season vs. switch 1 (though, they also sold more by the time holidays came around vs. switch 1 despite releasing like two months later in the year with Switch 2.
Nintendo successfully overstocked the Switch 2 on purpose to combat scalpers, especially in North America. Slowing down the pace of production from this massive initial push was already in the cards to begin with.
Also the reporter who broke this story is notorious for getting details wrong.
