How can I get the corner of my mousepad to stay down? I’ve tried folding it the other way, sticking it to the desk with blu tac and leaving heavy stuff on it for multiple days on end, but no matter what it always stubbornly pops back up. How can I get it to stay down permanently?

Have you tried a hair dryer? If it gets hot, place something heavy on top of it for a while until it cools down. Otherwise, 3M double tape is the solution.
Ice cube on the corner with a small weight to keep it pressed flat. As the cube melts & dries, it’ll retain the shape being kept flat
Wet cloth, iron.
Happened to mine, after I failed all the easy options like hair dryer etc, I inch my inchtried to shimmy it form one to the other, then removed the led hub and cut extra.
It worked and it fit, but I chewed up the threading that holds it in when I did it… ended up returning it as faulty. Got the gf a white one from a different company thinking it was a one time issue…. Same thing.
Fuck these pads, obviously it’s a terrible design and you can’t even wash them in the machine.
