Given they made a whole poster for Fox, I reckon he'll have more than a cameo in the movie. I see his inclusion as Nintendo's way to repackage Star Fox as a Mario-adjacent IP, keeping it relevant even without a new game.
Chibi Robo's a dead IP, Pikmin could probably be found on some planet Mario and the gang explore, Captain Falcon and all of F-Zero could be from Earth's future, Dillion was weirdly prominent for the 3DS and Wii U generation and I could see him being included, and Samus or a Metroid could be included for the same reason as Fox – why can't the universe fit them all?

I doubt we’ll see Samus in the movie just because the Metroid universe is a lot more grounded and realistic than Star Fox, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw her gunship in a wide shot or a Metroid floating around somewhere.
