No but not ENTIRELY unheard of. Is the missing material on the righthand side present somewhere in the packaging it was shipped in? If not it was tampered with.

Yes these things get stacked, squished and those tapes get old especially when subject to temp changes during shipment.

no, its whole point is to show it’s been opened

**NOPE**. This could be a professionally refurbished returned unit, that was resold to you.

Yeah, compared to the launch model boxes, this seal tears easily. Mine arrived like that. As long as it’s not a straight and clean cut that you’d get with a blade, you should be good.
airtec87 on
Mine didn’t tear but it peeled off the top lid, brand new from Amazon last year.
The tape seal Sony uses is very flimsy and weak.

those seals dry rot easy. it happened on my psvr2. the outside seal was hanging on but the inside one was completely broken

Unfortunately, in my experience, it is. If someone along the way grabs it on the sides and apply a bit of pressure, it will tear.

yeah, I got mine from Amazon and it had a torn seal. I actually returned it because I thought it was open. Got a new one and the next seal was broken as well. I looked it up and apparently it’s pretty common.

Yes I have seen too many people post and talk about the same problem PlayStation needs to switch the same way iPhones package is done . The only way to see if ur PlayStation is unused is after your first setup u should have Astro bot in ur installed games

Yes ive had a few received this way. Must be due to cold temps or something during shipping that ends up doing that. Had it happen with the fat launch ps5s and now the ps5 pro

If it makes you feel better when I bought my brand new ps5 pro from GameStop the seal was broken like this when they got it from the back. I double checked and it turns out the seals on these things suck so you’re good man. A good thing to check is if the twist wire on the cables in the box haven’t been tampered with and it will give you a special start up/boot up screen when you very first turn the pro on. Hope this helps

This is what happens when they try to save money even on stupid seal.

Yeah I wouldn’t worry about it unless you were a collector and wanted sealed

Yes! I work at a major retailer. There are 99% of the time broken before we even get them out of their shipping boxes. I’m not exaggerating, its so rare to see one in tact. Its the same for the ps VR headset ones too, not just the consoles.

Yes. It’s ridiculous. Sony is too cheap to put a quality seal on their console. My pro was like that at launch. It’s fine but annoying.

That seal sucks. It’s like it’s made from rice paper. Mike was Costco and it was half ripped

Very common. Those seals are awful and I’ve seen more broken than unbroken.

That seal is cheap. It’s been broken on both my PS5’s when I got them and they were definitely unopened

I bought mine 8 months ago but my seal was broken, however my console was brand new and never used
CorporalCoprolite on
Check for signs of use in the console itself, like fingerprints, scuffs, scratches near the HDMI and USB ports, etc just to make sure.

Worked at GameStop for a long time, the moment they switched to these shitty paper seals it became an issue. Probably had the seal broken out of the manufacturer carton on every 1 out of 4.
lazymutant256 on
The seal is so fragile it breaks very easily.. just check the contents.. if the console looks untouched, then you should be good.

Had the same issue from mine at GameStop. They had retaped it and I thought maybe they gave me a used unit but it was fresh.
The seal on mine was broken on arrival. No issues at all.

I wouldn’t trust it if the seal is broken. That is the reason they are there to guarantee it hasn’t been opened. I would assume it has been tampered with if that seal was cut like that as it takes a decent amount of force to do that.
