I just got a New 3DS and it came with one of those hard acrylic cases, I’d only used TPU ones before.

I tried taking it off to clean the console (I always do that when I get one), but it was so hard to remove that it ended up scratching the 3DS.

Now I’m kinda scared to put it back on, and I’m wondering if it’s even worth using a case to preserve it, or if I should just enjoy it and use it without one.

Is there any other reason to use cases besides protecting the paint?

Definitely go for a soft silicone shell!! Way better on the paint and still protective. Aliexpress has quite a few

    2. The Soft TPU cases have been known to stick to the paint on the New 3DS XL. The New 3DS XL have a well known history of chipping paint. This together lead to cases coming off with the paint from the owners New 3DS XL….
