I was immediately bothered that the design, which is clearly trying to emulate the iconic opening, didn’t have “rifling” (the swirly bit in the barrel that stabilizes the bullet).

I gave them the benefit of the doubt, maybe it’s meant to evoke light rays etc.

But no, they confirm twice in the official blog post that it’s supposed to be a callback to the iconic barrel in the films:

    > while the barrel-inspired detailing reflects the themes of the game and how it feels to play it, as well as being a nod to one of pop culture’s most recognizable visual signatures.

How can you call it “recognizable” and not even get the lines right?

“Featuring a golden sheen and radiant barrel design, the controller frames James Bond’s iconic codename and weapon on the DualSense wireless controller touchpad.”

It seems like they tried to evoke light rays and the rifling at the same time? IDK if that was a wise move, but there it is

    2. Yeah, they phoned in another controller design. It’s unfortunate. They’ve done some really great ones in the past, but lately they’re trending more towards “meh” (with Genshin Impact being an exception).
