"It's true, Pokemon Champions runs natively at 1920×1080 when booting Switch 2 in docked mode," he told One More Catch. "All signs point to a bug that has the game run in a 'portable state' even when connected to a TV. The problem is made more egregious by the lack of aliasing treatment to the image overall – meaning its rough, jagged edges are scaled from 1080p to 4K to disastrous results.

"The fix works well of course: lifting and re-docking your Switch 2 gives the system the necessary trigger to flip to native 3840×2160 – but still it's an issue that needs attending to."

Tom added "it's the first time" he's seen this behaviour from a Unity Engine game, though the team has also encountered the opposite before.

"Though from memory, funnily enough, Payday 2 had a reverse problem on the original Switch (at launch anyway) – that had its portable state running at its docked resolution (1080p)."

    1. I’m staying well away from the Pokemon sub after what I’ve seen from this issue.

I guess it looks somewhat better, but that upscaler used adds so much visual noise that I find it’s one of the ugliest pokemon games.

Pokémon Pokopia being a massive success and then there’s Pokémon Champions. All I can say is that Game Freak needs to get their sh** together and don’t release games when it’s not ready.

Cause if this keeps going then what’s the point of Pokémon Wind and Wave?

    4. Do they test their game before shipping it ? I mean it’s not a hard to reproduce bug, it’s the freaking docked mode and seeing players on reddit, it’s far from being a rare issue.

ILCA is working on Ace Combat 8 with Bandai Namco Aces with UE5, I don’t believe they are magically bad here, I would blame the publisher, at least partially, probably cutting as much corners as possible on the development budget

It’s odd, this sort of thing would usually be flagged in submission as a third party developer, you’d think they would hold their second party games to an even higher standard…
