As Halo 3 die hard fans, we're extremely biased.. but the The Xbox Design Lab is one of the best 3D configurators we've yet to use on the web.
Cinch Gaming hit us up and wanted to see if we could build them one on shopify that lived up to that impossible standard, and allowed custom third-party controller patterns that Microsoft doesn't offer. Took weeks dialing in the realism, ui, and performance to lock in at 60fps in the browser.
For the 3D enthusiasts in here, we built the underlying engine (Aircada) ourselves using
- WebGPU
- Three.js under the hood,
- TSL shading language (uses the GPU to handle all the pretty colors),
- KTX2 materials and instancing
- GLB Draco compressed 3D models
- React as the UI layer
Hard to compete with the King directly, but damn this was fun and wanted to share it with the community.
