I have some family added on steam and we use family sharing. I’m by far the one with the most games out of us all and they probably notice whenever I add a new game… so that’s why I’ll sometimes politely decline free game deals if it’s something that’s a bit “peculiar”

Anddddd you never played it. I don’t think any new games have ever made it using this method as PR. It’s not pushing sales unless you’re running an in-app purchase model, which is usually free to begin with.
This also explains why Epic Games’ “strategy” didn’t work, despite years of free games (aside from their shitty client)
