This is big news if it is going to happen. It seems part of the new Xbox Strategy they maybe discussing:
– Removing the Online Multiplayer Paywall (by 2027)
– Reducing the price of Gamepass
If they do remove the paywall for online play, Xbox will be the only console on the market that has that.
Is this part of the news that could be revealed in the June 7th Xbox Event? Do folk see it changing things going forward if Xbox removes the online paywall? Will reducing the price of Gamepass from $30 a month back down to $20 a month be the right move?

Yes. The reduction of price will incentivize more people to purchase any products.
They will remove the paywall, otherwise they can’t compete with steam
that article is total nonsense lol
Exclusives are not returning, nothing has been said about a price cut, and while people assume online multiplayer will be free, its certainly not confirmed.
No confirmation, but if they want Helix to have a chance that’s a big option for improving the ecosystem. Hard to sell a console that can play PC games online free but console games that can’t
If helix is just a pc then good luck anyone choosing to use your store if it requires you to pay online however very doubtful to see any prices on the subscriptions ever go down. We don’t do that here prices only go up.
In order to drop proces they’ll need to cut corner some where, so it rly depends on what data they have for their gp gamers
You would think it would be the opposite??? They would up the price as people wouldn’t need it for online (if they do remove it) meaning less money
Then take in the fact people will use Steam over the Xbox store so no money there
Unless they make it so the Gamepass PC version is for the Helix and standard would be for Series X/S as helix will likely be niche anyway
There won’t be price cut but a whole new tier. Xbox was stupid into thinking they could out pace the price of Netflix
Rug pull!!!
They should if they want to avoid GFWL 2.0 but I am not conviced they’ve learned from the past.
If I had a penny for every time we’ve had a “rumor” saying Microsoft will stop charging to play online I’d have a ton of money, they have been saying that since 2007
After years of raising prices, I doubt it
After the price increase, I’m done with Game Pass, and I’m not really looking to go back.
I’m also not willing to pay just for the privilege of playing mp games that I own. It feels like an outdated concept and a waste of money. So, I’m not going to buy games like Helldivers, Marathon, or ARC Raiders, because I wouldn’t be able to play them anyway.
So, hopefully they make the change.
Knowing Microsoft, I wouldn’t believe anything in this article until Microsoft themselves confirm it in a post. And even then, take it with a grain of salt until it’s actually implemented.
I hope the removal of online multiplayer paywall is true. I’m not someone who’s constantly subscribed to Gamepass so the fact that I even need it to play games I buy with my own money is something that really discourages me from buying games in general.
Them removing Game Pass Core/Xbox Live would be huge and would give *a* reason to own an Xbox as a companion console at the least. Kinda wish they would simplify Game Pass to how it was when it launched though still.
Whenever I bring this up nobody really has an answer but it’s critical in my opinion to helixs success. Will devs really make Xbox specific game versions still? I’m sure helix sales will be even worse than series x due to the likely $1k+ price and people just tired of Xbox and switching to PlayStation.
You’re already seeing some games forgo Xbox due to playstations user base being so much larger. Will they just give us the PC version of games and call it a day? If so, idk if Helix is gonna be worth it. It will just be a PC that can play old Xbox games. It probably won’t be as upgradeable as a regular PC either.
Honestly this will be a major incentive for me to play MP games because I don’t want to pay each month
