Hey everyone!

As someone who grew up with a PSP, I never got to experience the DS/3DS era of games.

But now I want to go back and try some of those cool games from that generation on the original hardware.

My question is which model to get? Between the original 3DS, 3DS XL, new 3DS and new 3DS XL, I wonder which version of the console I should be hunting down.

I value build quality and battery life. A bigger screen is appreciated but I don’t mind the standard 3DS screen size either.

    Thank you 😊

Depends on where you live ngl, I suggest getting one from Japan since they’re the cheapest, but have a risk of coming with yellowed top screens. All of my 3ds have been from the EU and the only problem I’ve had with any of them is one of them has that yellowing screen and they were all ridiculously expensive

new 3ds xl with CFW and it’s not even close. Many games only run on it, and everything feels, looks and runs better on it, plusz 3 extra buttons.

I have the new 3ds xl, i love it. But im hearing the dsi xl has better image quality, but also its barely noticeable unless you got them side by side. They work for me because i have bigger hands.

Any of the New models, they have more processing power which makes them more capable with homebrew

Either a New 3DS or a New 3DS XL. (New as in name; all reasonably priced consoles will be used.)

Pocketability of the smaller one is nice; the larger one has better battery life and was way more common outside Japan.

No matter which one you pick, custom firmware is a must, given that the eShop and servers went down in 2023.

(That said if your budget means you get the old 3DS, you’ll still have lots of fun.)

IMO new 3ds not xl, I have many cover plates that I can swap when I want and it’s more pocketable (I also have a new 2ds xl special edition and a new 3ds xl)
